re: idk what to do!

My aunt gave me some ready to use. So I gave him one of those and he just gulped down more than half the bottle.

I have a lactation nurse coming tomorrow. And I think I'm gonna try to use this little hand pump my friend got me, tomorrow as well. See if that will help bring milk in.

They more you pump (or have him nurse of course) the more stimulation you'll get and the more you should produce. You can also try natural supplements like fenegreek (sp) or "mother's milk" tea. I think that's what it's called... It's supposed to help with production. The lactation consultant should be able to give you the right names LOL

Thanks.

I'm so glad he finally ate though and stopped crying. So I guess he was hungry. I don't understand why he didn't get anything from me though. Cause when I squeezed it out to get him to latch, which a lactation lady at the hospital told me to do, I saw it come out and he licked it up. So I just don't understand.

Seeing as you weren't due for almost another month, he was a little early and usually the earlier they are born the harder time they may have latching on and feeding. Again, I didn't breastfed so they lactation specialist should be able to help you and give you more info.

no one "PUSHED" formular, he was obvioulsy hungry and she only gave it to him to tide him over untill she sees the consultent. giving my baby formular didn't "sabotage" getting my milk in.

it does alot of women. he probably has latching issues which is giving him gas in his belly. op run your nip along his nose and across his mouth to get him to open wide. pinch your nipple like a hamburger and get him to take in as much as he can. you should feel a slight tugging on the inside of your breast if he is getting stuff

The. Baby. Was. Hungry. It worked didn't it? He ate. He calmed down. Simple as that. Nobody is discouraging her from breast feeding, but the baby was freakin' hungry. If she needs help breast feeding a consultant is coming tomorrow, but for now she needs to feed her frickin' kid. I can't believe anyone would push NOT feeding your child.

Yes colostrum is good for your baby, but after two full days, a baby needs more than colostrum and obviously this baby was hungry because after he ate, he calmed down.

Good for you. And maybe YOUR baby was fine with colostrum, but that's not the case for ALL babies. A baby needs to be fed when hungry. If your baby was satisfied with colostrum, great, but that doesn't mean this baby needs to starve. Ridiculous.

colostrum is all a baby needs the first few days of life. it prepares the babies belly for milk. a babies belly is the size of a marble the first 24 hours. its probably an issue of latching which isnt helped at all by a bottle. if formula needs used then use a syringe so it doesnt mess up his latch even more.

Theoretically colostrum is "all a baby needs", but in real life, my kids were smurfing hungry and I fed them...formula. I didn't get ANY milk in for five days and none of my kids were satisfied with colostrum. I ended up doing this exact same thing with my first because my son was two days old and STARVING. I ended up having to make an emergency run to the store WITH my two day old in tow because I had no formula or bottles and he was screaming his head off, starving. Bought bottles, bought formula, gave him a bottle in the backseat of my car in the store parking lot and bam, problem solved, baby happy.

my baby was attached to me right b4 my milk came in its called cluster feeding. they do it at 3 weeks 6 weeks 3 months and 6 months. its a bitch but its normal. he should be getting satisfied for a little bit though which makes me think of latching issues. i just dont think its right to throw formula as the first thing. there are other things to try first.

^^ I agree with Mrs. Post-tato Head™ . I had a problem with my son latching AND with my milk coming in. He was screaming, I was crying, so I gave him a bottle. It didn't stop him from breastfeeding after my milk came in. The first day and a half, he was fine with the colostrum, but after that...he wasn't having it. He wanted more. And I could produce it just yet, so I supplemented. Once my milk came in, he was fine...except for the latching problem. I think I might just have really sensitive nipples. Oh well.

If a baby is hungry, it needs to be fed. End of story. It's not the end of the world to use a bottle or formula. My mom tried to breastfeed my sister. My sister ate constantly and was still screaming cause she was hungry. My mom went to the doctor and they said that her milk didn't have the nutrients it was supposed to. So she switched to formula.

trying to breast feed a screatching very hungry 2 day old baby is near impossible! no matter how hard you try, how man hours you try. i tried at 3 days old for nearly 12 hours to feed him in every way, with all the advise i could get and he just would not go on because he was so upset! so obvioulsy, after that long and some one suggests formular you give it to him! it never stopped him from breast feeding after that once we got the hang of it. and he still got all my colostrum because while he was on formular i pumped it all out and gave him it in a bottle.
