Not wanting used baby items

posted 6th Dec
I hate to sound like a bitch but this is the situation my bfs coworker offered him some baby items swing bassinet etc. it was a nice gesture but for one we aren't in need as in we can buy these items ourselves. Clothes I would gladly accept but this is my last baby along with they want the items back I mean why offer it then? My bf is all like why buy these things if they want to give it to us for one we have different tastes they got cutesy stuff and I'm more for bright colors lights & sounds my daughter loved it . This is also the second time they use these items as they bought it for their first and just recently had their second. I think my bf just doesn't want to say no to his friend because he thinks it will make him feel bad and this is like totally bothering me . Is it wrong to feel this way ? What can I do to convince my bf.

I honestly would use them because that's more money you can spend on clothes!

not at all
I feel the same way. I rather have them donate that clothes to someone who needs them.

I didn't accept used items. And I really wouldn't take anything they wanted back.

Personally, I'd take what was offered. I'd rather save the money I have then spend it on something that people are will to give me to use. But if you really want to buy new things and you have the money for it then there isn't nothing wrong with that.

Every single thing we got DD is unisex (pooh) so i can reuse everything on number 2. But i understand not wanting to use other peoples things.

There's nothing wrong with that at all. I would loved to been able to afford all new stuff for my son but my financial situation isn't the best right now, so I got a lot of second hand stuff, and thats just fine with me. But only if I knew where it was coming from and in near perfect condition.

I agree, I think it's a little crazy to spend 100+ on a bassinet that the baby uses maybe 3 months, why not borrow where you can.If you know the family and know the item has been well cared for and is clean, why not? Me and hubby are more then comfy with our finances but it's still nice to save money when ever possible.Besides the more I'm able to save on things the more i can spend in other places to spoil our little one =).....However i have been given a few things and have turned around and gave to someone else who i knew was in need for them cause i know its something we can provide.

They want it back lol it's not even that I feel like I'm better or whatever but the things they have to me is not entertaining at all and Adriana was super fussy and easily bored. I've vomited for like 20 weeks I think I have a right to choose where my child will sleep and it's definatly not on a used bassinet.

Most of the items were used twice and they have dogs which I'm very allergic to

I accepted used items when they were offered but only if I knew they had been meticulously cared for and that they hadn't been used too much. My sister gave us her baby swing because my nephew had barely used it when he was tiny. We were also surprised when DS was born because we were expecting a girl and people were really nice and letting us take their boy clothes as we needed them. For this baby, we've already got most of the things for both sexes but I think I'll still sneakily buy things because it's fun!

You sound a bit precious and snobby.
I loaned my friends things like my swing change table basinette bouncer. That stuffs like $500 like I would just give that away. I wouldn't expect someone to just give me stuff amounting to that. Small bits and pieces, yea, but not expensive stuff. If you don't want it then that's fine but don't be a snob about it.
And I agree with your husband, why buy if you can borrow? Like you said, this is your last baby. It's not like you'll be holding on to it for another baby. So why do you care that they want it back?

Kind of agree with this
I have some new stuff for my daughter but mostly consignment shop stuff where it's sold as brand new. Working with babies for two years. I watched how fast they grow out of things. I really don't think it matters as long as everything looks 'new' and is sterilized.

It's all about personal preference I guess. But personally that baby doesn't care one bit whether what they're in is used or not.
