Christmas is celebrated around the world. That's not even debatable. I didn't say in every country. That would be a generalization. I said he was a childhood hero for children around the world. Again, not a generalization because there are lots of children around the world who do idolize Santa.
Is there really a comparison between daddy saying to kids, the dishes are dirty therefore mom is lazy. And mom saying daddy got coal because he misbehaved as a child. She told a white lie, about an imaginary dude, who didn't really give him coal because he isn't real and in a few years they will realize that. But that's comparable to her DH calling her lazy if she doesn't do dishes... How? Please break it down for me further more? I just don't see the similarity.
And no I wouldn't be mad Cause yeah I'm being lazy right now by not doing my dishes. If my lo said mom you are lazy. you need to do dishes i would probably snicker and agree. O.o

LOL.

Seriously, though- I don't plan on celebrating that. But if I did, I would be upset. She made a story to explain why daddy's being ridiculous, that matched the story line of how people celebrate Christmas..so now it all makes sense why Daddy's getting all pissy over Santa. End of story.

1 BILLION people in India DO NOT celebrate Christmas. Santa doesn't stop there. Santa is a Western tradition. They don't have a comparable "hero" in Eastern cultures (Korea, Vietnam, China, Thailand, etc). There is no Santa in most parts of Africa.

Until you travel the world and see what is outside the US and Europe, don't comment on stuff you don't know about.

http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/family/christmas-traditions-around-the-world-ga2.htm A lot of different cultures have a Santa type figure. Not to mention, I'm sure that other countries have holidays with other imaginary saints or elves or spirits. Obviously they're not all identical because they're different countries and different cultures. What does that matter though really? They agreed as a couple to do the Santa thing. Changing his mind is fine, but that's something he should have talked to her about in private, not blurted out something because he got angry. That doesn't mean all couples should tell their kids stories about santa or baby jesus or whatever.

I'm glad DH and I agreed that we would tell DD the truth. However, SHE was the one to come to us and say that it just wasn't logical (she's 5). We hadn't said anything either way to her and we were going to tell her that he was not real if she asked. She beat us to the punch.

Oh, and your article? Those are all WESTERN cultures, other than China. Where's the Christmas traditions in Africa, India, Thailand, etc? Oh yeah...they don't celebrate Christmas.

I'm gonna speak real good and slow so you can follow along toots. Santa is idolized around the world. West to east...north and south. Not every inch of the globe but around the world. Okie dokie? Your replies are totally moot. Jesus.

Our boys don't even know who Santa is. I'm not gonna bring it up but I will go along with it if they find out about Santa on their own and tell them the stories and everything. But if they don't it's no big deal. They will learn about St. Nicholas but yeah.

But if Santa was a big thing in my house and SO told my 3 and 5 year olds that he's not real I would be PISSED. Don't ruin the magic for those children when it's blatantly a big deal. That's mean and petty.

Thank God I get to have a Christian free holiday season next year. Santa sucks and is a symbol of consumerism. One of the worst holidays is represented by a fat man and people killing each other for furbys.

Find me one Santa story from the second most populus country in the world.

Not sure how christian and santa clause go together, but back in the day when my parents were super religious, they were extremely anti-santa. They believed he was taking the place of Jesus and that it was lying to the kids. Also ... here's a link to Christmas in India http://www.whychristmas.com/cultures/india.shtml

That's 2.4% of Indians. You can't say it's a worldwide thing when I can name 1.2 billion people who don't have the concept of Santa and that doesn't include Africa, the middle east, and native tribes.
