I don't believe in him, my husband does. Everyone believes differently.

That's an opinion, not a fact.

Jesus is real to those who believe in him. It's called faith and there isn't necessarily proof that Jesus doesn't exist. What's not real is someone sliding down a chiminey leaving presents for children. It's an elaborate lie that parents go to extremes to make their children believe.

I would have had a disappointing childhood if my parents didn't sell me this "lie".
Santa is all fun and games, I can promise you that I am in no way harmed by my parents "lying" to me about him. It was fun, I loved it, it added to the magic of Christmas and gave us something to look forward to. (My parents were pretty hardcore about showing signs that santa had been there). I thoroughly enjoyed it, even when I didn't "believe" anymore. I wouldn't deny my kids the fun.

That being said, I wouldn't lie to my child about Jesus - he's just as fictional but 100x more harmful, IMO. Huge difference between pretending with santa and brainwashing your kids.

I didn't read the thread... I'm too lazy.

I'm very honest with Novali. I never do the "santa brought you gifts" thing or anything of the sort. On her own, my daughter decided my dad is Santa. We don't tell her it's not true, but we don't push it at all either.

I will hide money under her pillow and let her think it's the toothfairy when the time comes because she is so excited about it. She has already decided that the toothfairy is real. If and when she asks me the truth I'll tell her the truth.

It's fun, but I think she knows the truth and just likes to pretend.

To prove Santa is real: My dad (a few years ago):

Actually there are historical documents that prove Jesus existed but obviously they can't prove he was the son of God.. But there are like senseses or some crap like that, I learned about it in my very public school. Lol

Exactly. jesus is real to those who believe in him, just as Santa is real to those who believe in him. I pesonally think both are fictional beings but Santa is based on a real man who hundreds of years ago did make and deliver toys to every child in his village. I am not saying believeing in Jesus is wrong, it is right for so many people so who am I to judge... in the same way who is anyone to judge if they want to believe in Santa? It's just trading one faith for another IMO.

I was never harmed by my parents making me believe in Santa. My family even went to the extreme to leave red velvet in the door to make us think he got stuck. lmao. I was disappointed when my step-brother told me he wasnt real. I was 8. I still remember that vividly. But I am not bothered by it.

However, I am going to let my LO believe or dream what she feels and when she asks me about Santa I will tell her he is a fun character that people like to dress up as and sometimes this character is at events or whatever..... This is good enough for me. I cannot lie to her.

For this same reason, I dont talk about "God" Or "Jesus" bc there is no proof they exist, and I am very scientific. I know that men floating above the atmosphere is just not logical or possible.

I still didn't read through the whole thread, but why do all Santa debates become Jesus debates??

Many, many people believe in Jesus and are Christians. I don't know many people who are adults and believe in Santa.

Ok? And that doesn't stop them from being equally ridiculous to a lot of people.

Of course, so let's keep that in the religious debates and keep Santa/lying to your children in these debates... no need to merge them.

Don't you think religion gets mixed into enough debates? Gay marriage, abortion, death penalty, etc. Keep Santa debates clean, people!
