Feeding times?

How long do you feed your newborn? Sometimes mine only feeds 10 mins, sometimes 45 mins or so....also, do you wake them up for next feeding or feed on demand and why? Nurses said I should wake her up, but I fed on demand with my first....

Mine would be anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. I would only wake her if she slept for more than 4 hours.

I fed my newborn every 2 hours round the clock but I don't think that was the best thing TBH. It made mommy AND baby overly tired. This time, I will nurse on demand unless it's been more than 4 hours, then i'll wake them. You're doing everything right sounds like!

I have always fed on demand and mine usually did 15 mins on each side. But if your flow is heavy baby may be getting enough in less time. I wouldn't worry about it...she'll let you know if she's hungry

Mine will nurse anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes. The latter usually being because he fell asleep and I didn't notice lol.
He's 3 months and nurses on demand. I don't wake him to feed. If he's hungry, he'll let me know. He's gaining weight so I'm not worried.

At new born stage it was every 2hours till they go to be about 3 to 4months then it was on demand. It was between 15 to 45 minutes usually. I was told to do 15 on one side and 15 on the other side. If your breast feeding. Breast feeding requires more time. with formula you can go up to 3 1/2 without feeding.

Thank you ladies! I didn't think it would be wise to do the waking up thing every 2 hours, but I just wanted to make sure. I've always heard "you should never wake a sleeping baby" (of course i realize there are some instances you need to)...and I totally forgot how long my first would nurse for! I feel like I've forgotten everything so thank you
