Could use advice from mamas who have been through this.. = (

So I went to the Midwife today expecting a normal appointment and apparently my blood pressure was high and I have protein in my urine. The Midwife is concerned about Preeclampsia and if my blood work comes back abnormal, they are going to induce me tomorrow or Saturday. I had a NST and the baby looks fine and I am currently doing a 24 hour urine analysis. To top it off I came home, checked my mail and received a letter from my thyroid doctor saying that my labs came back abnormal and my thyroid is out of control again. Any moms ever experience this? How did the induction go? I am 38 weeks tomorrow, 2 cm dilated, 70% effaced, and the head is at a -2 station. Thanks for any advice! Please try and keep stories positive, I am super upset.

i had pre-e both times.
its really not a big deal. they give you mag sulfate for 24 hours after birth to prevent seizures.

Well, I was induced but only because I went overdue. but I actually had a pretty good experience with it. I wanted natural so I will warn you that the pitocin hurts like hell, but my labor was only 9 hours and I only pushed for half an hour, no tearing or anything. I know a lot of women say that induction leads to c-section but I've heard a lot of stories where its fine. Plus, it sounds like your body is just about ready for labor anyways.

Well I can say its definitely a plus that you're already dialated, with my first I wasn't dilated at all, hadn't had a single contraction, cervix was closed and hard as a rock so needless to say it was miserable for me. They started the induction on Monday night and I didn't have him until Thursday late night. My 2nd son my water broke on its own and I was 2 cm dialated but no contractions, so they gave me pitocin and he was out a few hours later. Good luck.

I was induced at 37.5 weeks for blood pressure. I wound up getting a c-section b/c baby didn't like the contractions, but other than that, no issues. She had low blood sugar, but no problems at all from the induction or c-section. Her lungs were perfect and my blood pressure went down. Took it a while to totally even out, but it dropped quite a bit within just a few days. Good luck!
ETa: I was 4cm when they induced me, I just think they tried to push it too fast. They broke my water right away and talked me into getting an epidural when I didn't need it.

I was induced with both of my boys. My oldest was a little bit more ruff than my youngest but that's because I wasn't dilated. With my youngest I was 1 cm not sure how effaced I was but it went really well. Baby did great and so did I. If you do end up being induced I would consider using Evening Primrose Oil. Obviously check with your midwife first before you use it but it will help further soften your cervix which doesn't hurt. It will help speed up the process because the contractions and the pressure of the baby do not have to "work" as hard to dilate your cervix.

Thank you so much ladies, I really appreciate it!! It is nice to hear positive stories right now! I planned a natural labor in a birthing center, but that doesn't look like it is going to happen lol! Thanks again, it really helps!!

It wasnt for preeclampsia but I went in for a routine appointment at 36+2 and was sent for an induction. I had my son at that gestational age but I really was not expecting to do the same the second time around.
I was actually happy the decision was made though and had a perfect induction. I delivered my son after only 1 hr 46 minutes of labor. So I wS terrified that I wouldnt make the hours drive to the hospital.
My water was broken at 2:10 pm. I was at 5 cm and went instantly to 6 1/2. They started pitocin to keep things moving. I hit transition pretty quick and needed to push. I did it all without pain meds and delivered my daughter at 2:46pm after only 36 minutes of labor!!!!
Good luck to you hun! And congratulations!

It was crazy lol. It went so fast that my nurse refused to believe it was time too push. I basically told her that I was pushing the baby out whether she liked it or not...

I was in a similar situation with an "unfavorable cervix" I went in at 40w2d overdue and had prepidil put in vaginally, and cytotec given orally. I had 16 hours of light contractions and after all of that was still 0cm 0% effaced. They said they could break my water and start pitocin but given my lack of progress I asked to go home instead.
I went in again at 40w6d and was given cervidil, got to a 2 by 6am, was given pitocin at 8am and she was here at noon.
OP: Imo usually inductions aren't as bad as they are made out to be.

Thank you, I needed to hear that! They make inductions seem like the worst possible thing that can happen.

I started my induction at 38+6, had DS at 39+1. I went in at a fingertip dilated & 50% effaced. My son did NOT handle my contractions well at all. They kept stopping my pitocin. After 26 hours of my water being broke, and 29 hours on pitocin I finally had him naturally though.
Good Luck!

I had pre-E with my now two year old starting at 35 weeks. Was scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks. As it turns out, I ended up requiring a c-section upon ariving for my induction for unrelated reasons.
but what I can tell you is that it's a good sine that you've made cervical progress. Your induction shouldn't take as long because they don't need to dialate you, and the chances of it failing and ending in c-section are lower than if you were induced with no cervical progress.
Since you're term baby should be fine. I remember being as scared as you are. If you need to talk, feel free to PM me. and thanks again for giving me links to HG support groups a while back.
As for the Thyroid issue, I have no experience and therefore no advice. but best of luck.
