Baby poop
posted 6th Dec
So, I was using google to see if a switch from orange poop to a greenish-yellowish poop signifies anything in regards to bilirubin (I know it's a long shot, but I was kind of hoping it might mean that his levels are nice and low) and now I'm wondering if green poop is good at all. Some sites say it's normal and others say it could mean a milk imbalance.
I don't know which to believe or if I should try to change anything. Everything mentioning a milk imbalance mentions gas, pain, spitting up and the like and LO isn't doing any of that.
I wouldn't even give it a thought expect he doesn't breastfeed as well as I'd like. He does well enough, but he just isn't as eager as my oldest was and he likes to fall asleep like 10 minutes in and then I have to fight with him to keep him going sometimes.

If hes not in pain or bothered, green poop can be normal.

Green poop is usually pretty normal. Maybe nurse from one breast for 2 feedings, than nurse from the other for another 2 feedings. It may or may not clear it up, but it's not a big deal.

It can mean either his levels are lowering or it could be a slight issue with breastfeeding. With my youngest, i had a month or 2 of green poop. He was very jaundice when we left the hospital, but just low enough to not have to stay to be on the lights. We did have to go get his blood work done daily until they went down. When i told the dr about his poo, he said it was just his levels getting lower. Also, breastfed babies will have some slight breastfeeding jaundice. That normally happens a week or so after the regular jaundice resolves itself.
Onto the rest of the month ...lol... So after his jaundice was taken care of, he went back to yellow poop and then after a week or so went back to green. I was making way too much milk and he was drowning. It never seemed to bother him, but he did gain a ton of weight in the beginning. I want to say over 3lbs between his first well check and his 1 month check up.
Green poop can also just happen and it's not a big deal if it only happens every once in a while. If he seems fine, i wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, everyone! It was only the last two or three diapers so I'm not super worried but was curious if I should be doing anything. Today he's been eating for 10 minutes, stopping for 10 or 15, and then going at it again for another 10-20 minutes. I've just not been switching breasts and I'm wondering if that will make a difference. Since my milk just came in yesterday and I'm a bit engorged, I am thinking it might be an overactive letdown.
Ugh. I forgot how many things there were to worry about with newborns.
