My MIL asked if she could be in the room and I told her I wasn't comfortable with it. Despite me telling her no, she kept pressing the issue and asking if my Mom was going to be in the room or not. I had no issue with my mom being there because she has seen me naked several times in my adult life. Luckily she lived in another state so when I went into labor I told my husband he was not allowed to call her until we got to the point that I was about to give birth so she couldn't drive down. Her being in the room after she was born caused my blood pressure to spike extremely high that they had to ask her to leave.

If you can't keep her away and you are afraid your DH won't back down I would start to discussing it with your OB. Ask him to tell your DH that there is a hospital policy in place or something. I know I was only allowed to have two people in the room.

This topic greatly interest me. Right now my MIL has not really asked about being in the delivery room when baby is born but my mom and sister asked who all was going to be in there (hospital allows 2 at most maybe 3 according to my doctor) and I know I don't mind my mom being in there she was in there for my my two older sisters babies birth and they are way more shy and private about there bodies then I am. So I figure my husband, my mom and then I have been thinking alot about my MIL. At this moment I feel awkward thinking about her being there me laying spread eagle, but I'm hoping that with everything going on I really wont notice. So I am going to offer when the time comes if she is already there and if she want's to stay and watch maybe her one and only grand baby be born I will give that to her. I know she knows what a vagina looks like and I know that I would really like the chance when the time comes to see my first grand baby enter this world. I'll post how I felt about it and what happened after LO gets here.

I had the same problem. Mil wanted to be there but I said no. when I was in labor I changed my mind but the baby came so fast she didn't get a chance to leave her house lol.

I understand the benefits of the situation. My mom want to be in the room as well (which I am a lot more comfortable with seeing as how she was there with my first and we live with her, so comfortability is there on both parts) but I would rather have it be just him and I that way it's more fair as well. I would like to say I'm open to the idea, but it's hard to be when her and I aren't close at all. Only reason I would want her in there is so that she's able to experience that moment, but meeting the baby in general should be a big enough moment for her. I feel like baby comes out, that moment is mine and my husbands. She would have to wait until we've spent our time with him in order to step in, whereas if she walked in to the room after, that moment is hers and she has time to bond.

Will OB lie for me?
Also, I will not know who will be delivering my baby, would they keep that information in my file or something that way they know the situation?

yes! even the nurses will usually lie for you especially if they see you in a stressful situation. They made everyone get out with my first just because I was getting overwhelmed with all the questions from my visitors.

i would feel the same way but in baby books they say if it makes u uncomfterble it could also slow the proses of the birth i think u should let her be one of the first to come in and ur husband should be the only one in the room so all attention is on u after all it is ur moment

you are so not being selfish! I wouldnt want my MIL in there either. that would just be weird and uncomfortable, both you and DH should be focused on you and the baby, not your MIL. She had kids she knows what happens, she doesnt need to see you do it, IMO your DH is being kinda selfish by not taking into consideration that you want it to be a special moment between you and him.

Maybe I'm just lucky...never happened though..yeah I bled, but I wasn't covered in blood. My deliveries must have been extremely clean.
