Topamax and weight loss

Have you been on Topamax? If so, have you lost weight?

I use topamax off and on. I did lose weight while on it, but I also didn't have any appetite

Made me gain massive weight

I took it for two months for migraines and lost about 20 lbs. I hated the way I felt on it, like I was always tiered so I stopped taking it.

what doses were y'all on?

My friend took it for migraines & lost weight. I didnt have them but asked to be prescribed them to lose weight... After I read the side affects I wouldnt take them... They give it to cancer patients to help them gain weight so Im not sure why it actually promotes weight loss in some people,.. but its not for everyone I was told by my doctor!

I don't even remember it was three years ago. I took four pills a day so maybe they were 25 mg each? I'm not really sure, sorry.

How long after taking it did you start to notice your appetite decreasing?

It also can make you very slow! (your brain can stop functioning on you, you become forgetful) So I wouldnt take it to try to lose weight... One it can back fire & you could gain... two the things that can happen arnt worth taking it, its better to just lose weight the right way

Within a week. I was on 75mg/day for migraines

Oh I'm on it for something else, just wondered if anyone had lost weight on it because I learned that it could be a side effect after starting on it.

If its something your prescribed because you need it & the befits of it out way the risk then that makes since. I was just stupid & asked for it because I seen it as an easy way to lose weight. But I was smart & looked into the risk & decided against it. My friend who took it & lost weight didnt even know the risk, so I just wanted to share that! =) good luck

I was prescribed it for migraines and the doctor said it would help with weight loss, and i felt so tingly/numb on it was so annoying! my hands and feet were always "asleep". I also forgot words...I felt so stupid on it!! Like I would be talking and forget what I was talking about and stumbled trying to find the right word I was meaning to say. I took it again last year when I was going to the gym losing weight(i was also pregnant in the first trimester and did not know it!) so I assume it helped me lose weight I also dieted and exersized and lost about 40lbs from april to june. I stopped taking it right when I fought out I was pregnant and all symptoms stopped. I also stopped going to the gym lol and gained those pounds back. I've actually had the thought to start taking it again but the tingly feelings and forgetfullness has been what's holding me back from trying it again. oh and btw, i started out at 25 mg a day for a week, 50 mg next week, 75 mg the next week then 100mg a day from then on out.

Was on 100mg twice a day, my weight stayed the same. However it made me a lunatic   I would drive back and forth past our road looking for the right place to turn, stuff like that.
