Birthing choices.

I am just curious if anyone knew anything about if different hospitals offer multiple choices on how to deliver your baby. I have always thought about doing a water birth or just maybe a specific birth plan than i had with my 1st child. I didn't know if it was something the doctor or hospital had to agree to or if you had to use a midwife or something to have the options. Any one know?

The hospital I delivered at offered water birth if you took a training class and it was ok'd by your doctor. I kept my birth plan simple because we had so many issues. Don't get your heart set on things going a certain way cause in a moment all of it can go out the window

Some hospitals allow for a water birth some dont just depends on the equipment they have. I had a very specific birth plan with my second and my hospital followed it. If you want a home birth, or water birth usually a midwife or a birthing center is your best option.

You have to check with the specific hospitals because some are set up for water births and some are not. If you really want a more natural birth I highly suggest a birth center with midwives.

You first Need to research what methods your hospital offers. Then you can discuss your choice with your dr.

If I were you, I'd look into midwives and birthing centers. Birthing centers are WAYYYYY better and have many more options than hospitals. Much more realaxing and laid back and they dont push meds or c sections on you like hospitals do. They also have different "tools" to labor with rather than just being strapped to a bed with monitors on you

Yes plus you can eat, drink, have whoever you want there, move around, etc, etc. Basically it's VERY free and awesome. I loved my birth center and we're going to the same place for the second.

You can have it your way no matter where your at. Don't let anyone, mostly hospitals tell you otherwise. It is your choice, you just have to speak up. I know personally that I am going to check out a birthing center because you stay in one private room the whole time your there and you can make requests easier, it also has a birthing tub. It's mostly up to you. Just remember if theres any danger with you or the baby you might have to give in a bit but if everything is low risk and healthy, it's all your choice.

*sigh* I wish we had those around here. I'd probably opt for that rather than going straight to a home birth. I'll take anything over a hospital though lol

All of this is great information. Thank you ladies. My experience with my daughter was okay. I just would of loved to be able to get up and walk around a little bit. I will talk to my doctor on monday. Hopefully I can get some good news out of it. I guess if I won't get much of a choice then I'll look into other options.

Oh yeah if I didn't have that option I'd probably go home birth too. I don't want to have a birth where I'm having to fight for what I want, where as at the birth center they pretty much automatically do everything (or NOT do) I want anyway.

I agree with everyone about checking into a birth center. However hospitals are not all bad. My hospital let me eat and drink. I was induced for medical reasons. I was allowed to walk, rock in a chair, sit on my excersice ball, or labor in my own private tub. However I was barred from delivering in my tub because I had gestational diabetes. I had excellent nurses that helped me breath through my contractions for 14 hours. They did not push drugs on me as I requested they not do that in my birth plan. Check out your hospital. Mine I can't say enough good things about. I stayed in my one room the whole time for labor delivery and recovery.

Oh wow thank you, I didn't know this. I have no problem speaking up either Lol. And of course I am also not so stubborn that I would risk anything health wise to my baby. I would love a good bith plan, but I would also understand that doctor knows best. Thank you for telling me.

Yeah you should definitely look into a midwife over an OB either way. You should be able to come away saying "Wow that was the best experience I've ever had!!" rather than "it was okay".

That's NOT true. The hospitals around here don't even have tubs... So you really don't have a choice.
