Quoting Will☮Creedence:" Yeah you should definitely look into a midwife over an OB either way. You should be able to come away saying "Wow that was the best experience I've ever had!!" rather than "it was okay"."

That's a great idea. I will check into all these things.

One more thing lol
Doctors may "know best" but that doesn't mean they're going to recomend whats best. They may tell you that you HAVE to have pitocin because you're not progressing fast enough or that you NEED a c section because you're not progressing fast enough when really you're just not progressing to their liking. They may want to get home for dinner, or go to sleep, or whatever. But a lot of the time they don't have your best interest at heart and they take advantage of you being in the hospital and having everything they need to speed things up right there even though it may make things worse for you and baby.

I agree. You are right. A lot of doctors these days could give a smurf less. And that's kind of how i felt with my doc i had for my last pregnancy. But this time around i feel much better so far. This doctor is sweet & seems to care. He talks through things with me if i give him a weird look about someting he says. Lol. I am hoping that this time things are much better.

Quoting Will☮Creedence:" That's NOT true. The hospitals around here don't even have tubs... So you really don't have a choice."

I didn't mean every hospital, there is a little research involved, some hospitals don't have a birthing tub but that still doesn't mean you cant have your personal requests met, is what I am trying to say. I was referring to things like meds, pushed c sections/ and being able to walk around.

Believe me when you're in tons of pain and in labor, you're much easier to persuade. At least I was. I was 100% against getting an epidural and guess what I ended up with?
They also tried to give me pitocin....ok listen to this. My water broke at 2am. I immediately started progressing FAST. I was at 7cm by 7am (so 7cm in 5 1/2 hours) and they tried giving me pitocin! I said hell no and before I knew it I was pushing my son out. They will do anything to get more money out of you.

I think it has to do with a persons willpower I suppose. I guess if you want to make sure your med free and do it all on your own you can have a home birth. I am 20 weeks along with my first and I have been told that my preferences about pain meds and other things will change but my pain tolerance is pretty high so I am confident I can get what I want with my experience if me/baby are healthy. I just try to pass that confidence on to other moms to be. I have had a few friends have a really bad time with their labors just because they didn't speak up or do a little research. That's also why I am choosing a birthing center on a hospital. If I need hospital intervention, it's there but if not I am completely on my own with how I want it.

I have extremely strong will power but nothing can prepare you for labor. I have heard so many girls say that they were in too much pain to argue and their SOs were scared so they went along with it.
I DRILLED my SO to not let me get the epidural for months but when the time came and he saw how much pain I was in he didn't even try to support me in not wanting it or talk me out of it.
I feel like if I ever was to have a hospital birth again I would need a doula. You really need someone there to advocate for you, because 9 out of 10 times you won't even be able to think straight and will say ok to anything, no matter what your willpower is.

Yup I agree. That's what happened to me too. I wanted this preg to be my birthing redmeption but now I'm screwed   but I am very grateful for not switching to a midwife like I had planned before connecting well with my OB while ttc because if I had a midwife I'd probably not have caught my rare complication and my baby would have died.

Well like every pregnancy, every woman is different. I have heard bad stories and I have heard stories where labor lasted 2 hours with little pain. Willpower varies.

Willpower has nothing to do with how long or pain free your labor is.

It has a lot to do with if you get meds or not during a long labor. I'm done debating the fact that not all women, including me are like you and that even if I beg and plead for a epi, I'm not getting one, I've gone trough a great deal of pain in my lifetime and no matter how hard labor was for you, its not going to be the same for me.

Lol don't worry you'll see soon enough.
I've never once said labor is exactly the same for everyone, I'm just trying to tell you it has nothing to do with willpower. BUT you've never been through labor and essentially have no clue what you're talking about. Like I said you'll see soon enough.

my hospital i believe only does regular births by natural or c section. no water births.
