My 35 weeker was born at 4.2 lbs. He was in NICU for 11 days. He wasn't quite 5 lbs when I brought him home.

I think it is a level three nicu. Its the best hospital around here besides Duke. And duke is like a 4 hour drive.

20 weeks? I'm almost certain they all do not make it. My hospital is a level IV and they said they will try to save a 23 weeker only if the baby is showing strong signs of being a fighter. Its really the doctor's call. I know when I went into labor at 25 weeks and they thought for sure I was going to deliver they offered me the choice of saving the baby or just comfort care. I opted to save her and thankfully she held on until 28 weeks.

Thats just what my hospital said. They dont consider a fetus viable until at least 20 weeks. And the only reason i know that is because i had to be put in the hospital at 18 weeks.

Oh yeah, like mine won't send you to l&d until 20 weeks I believe. I know I went into labor at 20 weeks with my second and they wouldn't even put her on the monitor. They did try and stop my contractions and were successful. I know they just don't try as hard until you are 23/24 weeks. They def would not try and resuscitate at 20 weeks.

At my hospital if you have a problem before 20 weeks you go to the ER. After that you can go straight to L&D Triage.

Yeah my regular ob had to pull some strings to get the higher risk hospital to take me at 22 weeks. They didn't really want to take me because there wasn't anything they could do yet. I was also given the option of aborting the pregnancy at that point. Interesting fact of the day, a level 3 and a level 4 NICU can be the same thing. I was wondering what the difference was because I know that the one I delivered at was the highest level possible. Our local hospital only can take care of babies who are over 32 weeks gestation.

Viability is done by a state to state basis it not a norm across all states. Some have viability set to as low as 18 weeks while other states have it set as high as 28.

Yeah my hospital has to ship babies 20 mins to the nearest nicu if they're before 35 weeks. Even at 35 they probably ship them to be safe, but they aren't capable of handling any issues sooner than that. They cando oxygen and stuff to get baby to the nicu hospital. But they can't get an emergency there in time. That's why I have to do my hospital bed rest at the far away hospital. It's about 45 mins away from my house. Because my hospital isn't equipped to do an immediate blood transfusion on my child if I were to have that issue arise while staying there.

What's wrong that you need to be on hospital bed rest? You must be strong to do that! They put me on hospital bed rest Tuesday night telling me I had to stay the remainder of my pregnancy. I cried like a baby leaving my girls. Little did I know 12 hrs later my water would break and I delivered two hrs later BC I had previa.

I have vasa previa.   it sucks but its what's best for the baby's safety. They can get her out before she bleeds to death hopefully if I'm in the haopital. If I'm
At home shed die   luckily I have a friend who lives 15 mins from the haopital and said SO and dd can stay anytime they need to. And I'm sure SO will come
Out almost daily after picking up dd from school. Her schools probably 15 mind away from there as well. It's just scary

Omgosh I know exactly what that is. How many weeks are you? Do you have a history of preterm labor? When do they plan on taking the baby? I was very nervous about that this pregnancy but they cleared me.
