Cloth vs Disposable Diapers

posted 6th Dec
Really thinking of at least trying cloth diapers this time around. Wasnt even an option last time because we didnt ahve a washer&dryer.
MY pros.
Cute Covers.
Cheap.
We now have a washer&Dryer.

MY cons/?
Up to how old can they wear cloth?
Messy?
make clothes fit weird in the butt area?
so puffy!
how many do you get? is THAT expensive?

as long as they are on right, no leaks. Pro-saves a ton of money, many different options, no rashes, not messy clean up

ETA: I have one size diapers, so they go up to potty training age, but they also make sized diapers that come in s,m,l and go up just as big. And I have over 20 diapers, but mine were more expensive. Alva and Sunbaby diapers are pretty cheap and people say good things about them.

Pro, you can do cover's and prefolds. no you don't have to put the pre-fold on, you can trifold! you can get a stash of 3-4 covers and 24 prefolds for under 100 bucks.
pro-can be used from birth till potty training ( most)
Pro- no blow outs!
Pro- you know what the diaper is made out of

You can use them through PTing. They can be as cheap or as expensive as your budget allows. It also depends on your philosophies. I spend a little more because I only buy WAHM diapers. So mine range from $10-25. Many mamas on ere get theirs for $4-6 through coops and Chinese suppliers.

They are gonna be messier cause yes you have to plop the poop out when it's solid. But bf babies don't need to do anything. Just throw the inthe diaper Paul and wash as normal. You do need special soap. And you can't use regular store bought diaper rash cream. But u can use special creams or coconut oil. They're really not THAT puffy. You can get some pretty slim ones.

So long as they're on right, and you change often, no leaks... but I had pee leaks with disposables pretty often.

ok, so... stages i guess ill put it..
BF baby poop.
you dont need to rinse it or anything? you just put them in the diaper pall then when its full wash them instead of toss them? i feel like i would want to rinse the poop ones right away and then wash them soon lol
how many times a week would you do a load of diapers? i know it depends on how many you have as well. how many would one need?
why do you need special soap and cream?

very rarely. And I buy my diaper rash cream at target, its CD safe. And clean-up isn't bad. I use flushable liners for poop, and if its a bit runny I just spray it out. I never touch poop, and shake out the inserts, so never touch pee (I use pockets)

I love cloth. We CD's for over a year. They are cute, good for the environment and easy to use.
Once my second was born and I was washing 2 kids diapers our water bill went up sooo much that I just quit because buying disposable was cheaper.

They can wear cloth until they are potty trained.
We had some explosions but that would have happened in a disposable as well.

I have over 20. Do a wash every 2-3 days. You need special detergent and cream because regular ones can make them repel instead of absorb. I use California baby cream, which I get at target or Babies R Us, and I use Mountain Green detergent, but you can use All Free and Clear
