Quoting XavierRose:" I have over 20. Do a wash every 2-3 days. You need special detergent and cream because regular ones ... [snip!] ... baby cream, which I get at target or Babies R Us, and I use Mountain Green detergent, but you can use All Free and Clear"
so some soaps will make the diapers like, waterproof or whatever and others make them soak it up like suppose to? i dont really understand the cream still... does some cream get wiped off really bad by the CD or something? can you use powder still in CD?

depends. There are prefolds and covers, or a pocket is one you stuff with inserts. here is a pocket

here is a prefold and cover (you don't have to use pins, they make a thing called a snappi)

There are lots of different styles of diapers which would depend on how many "parts" there are. I use pockets and all in twos basically you have the diaper(cover) and a liner that snaps in or you stuff into a pocket then put it on baby. I have about 30+ diapers (im an addict) and I wash every 2-3 days. I also have a diaper sprayer thats hooked to the toilet so when I do have poop I just rinse it off and in the bag it goes. I can wash my wet bag so unlike a diaper pail there is no lingering smell that builds up. I switched to a CD safe detergent for everything so I only have to use one kind. Its the easiest laundry ever and I always get compliments on how cute my daughters butt is.

yea, it makes them not absorb. Same with the cream, it makes a layer on the part that touches the skin and doesn't wash off well. But they make CD safe creams that work great.

Yeah some soaps make them repel pee then they leak. Creams do te same thing. They can't efficiently get washed out they leave a residue.

OMG these diapers seem SO CONFUSING! i eventually would get it.. hopefully but my husband... idk lol i love that toilet sprayer idea! I will def have to check out that youtube site or something! also, with the extra water used to wash and electricity to dry. the diapers being kind of expensive in the beginging, special soaps and creams... it still comes out to be cheaper than disposables?

They can wear cloth all the way until they are in regular underpants.

I wouldn't say they're really messy. My son has had 1 blow out in cloth and that was because (tmi) he hadn't pooped in days and he ended up letting out a massive, liquidy amount. I rinse every diaper clean and free of urine before I pail it and we usually never have any smells or urine build up. We wash 2 times a week with Rockin Green (we do a warm short wash with no detergent, then a regular hot wash with detergent, and rinse twice with cold).

My son has a few diapers that are too bulky to fit under his jeans, but I usually only use them as night time diapers. For the most part, the rest of the diapers we have are pretty slim and trim.

We have somewhere between 21-24 diapers at 22 months. The most expensive diaper was about $21, the cheapest was $7-$8. I paid $15 for my detergent in July and I'm still using it...I can probably get at least 2 more months out of it.

I have an HE washer and dryer my water bill went up maybe $6 a month if that and my gas bill maybe $4. You dont use a lot of soap to wash. I know some people have gotten a full stash of diapers for $150 and others whos stash cost $400+. All depends on the diapers and the brands. Like someone else I prefer WAHM diapers. I like to know my money is going to a mother supporting her family and I pay extra for customs, quality, and supporting small businesses.

Yeah it comes out cheaper. It's just more up front cost. There is a lot to take in. You just have to research. I like All in twos (AI2s) because if the baby doesn't pee through the soaker you can reuse te cover and just snap another soaker in. Or I can use prefolds in the covers too. All in ones(AIOs) are more daddy friendly cause they are most like using disposables. You use them
Once then throw them in the wash instead of the trash like a disposable.

yea, I just switched all of our clothes to use the detergent. the cream isn't any more expensive than desitin. and my dh is a dope, but has no problem changing him. I stuff all the diapers, cuz I like them a certain way, but it's really not that hard once you get used to it.

oh thats good. my son now.. just turned 2. he leaks SOO BAD at night time. we have him in a size too big for bed time. when he was little he had blow outs quite a bit. not huge ones but ones where the leg whole of the onesie would get a little ...poopy. lol

Would you guys maybe send me some links to the diapers you buy?
