Abstinence Education vs. Sex Education.

posted 6th Dec
So, I am watching Dr. Phil & there are both sides debating right now. All I can think of is how Abstinence Education actually results in higher teen pregnancy rates...ugh, I just wish I could tell the dude off who is for Abstinence Education lol. I had to do a research project in my Child Development class on this exact subject and there are many studies done that show in the states such as Southern States, that preach Abstinence Education there is a higher rate of teen pregnancy.

So my question is, which do you think is better Abstinence Education or Sex Education, and why?

I think sex education is better because if someone wants to have sex, they are going to have sex no matter who has told them not to do it. So, it's better that they are educated about sex itself so if they don't practice abstinence, at least they know what they're at risk for and ways to help prevent those things.

Sex Education.

Teach them about it, how it happens, why it happens and the consequences of each choice.

Telling them not to do something without educating them on the subject is just going to make them want to figure it out on their own.

Sex education, definitely. Where I live they only teach abstinence, it's so pointless when there's ten pregnant girls in the class and some that already have kids and the teacher says "well guys, just don't have sex, okay? God doesn't like it."

The dude who is for Abstinence Education is trying to say "They are going to end up with broken hearts if they just go out & have sex with whoever they want because they are given condoms."

Both, of course.

I am going to teach them in tandem.

The ONLY way to ensure not getting pregnant or a STD is refraining from sex. This is a fact. I will also teach the HEAVY consequences of sex by focusing on all of the negative aspects of it.

I will NOT "okay" sex before marriage. I will teach that it is wrong.

sex education, definitely , sex is natural, i would much rather my teen be having safe sex than relying on no contraception and being caught out, weather that be with an sti or pregnancy. teens are going to have sex no matter what x

He's an idiot. You don't need to be having sex to have your heart broken.

Broken hearts are much worse when you are sleeping with someone, for the most part. The physical act of sex is MEANT to create a bond, and that it does. Sure, many can shut themselves off emotionally. There are exceptions to that rule, but sex is a bonding experience like no other.

What really enrages me is the prevalence of misinformation in abstinence based sex-ed classes in an attempt to manipulate students to abstain from sex. It results in higher rates of STD's and teen pregnancies.

the physical act of sex is meant for reproduction. The human race does not mate for life. If we did then there would be many more people partnered up, and only a miniscule divorce rate. Look at penguins, you don't see many single penguins, where in humans it is decently common. Most people have had more than one sexual partner.

Sex is meant to procreate. Sure, lots of people attach emotions to it. I didn't say they didn't. But there are so many people that can have 1 night stands or basically be promiscuous and it doesn't bother them. These are High School kids we're talking about here. There doesn't have to be sex to have broken hearts.

biology > everything else

Its pretty simple lol, sex is for pro-creation, not to form a bond. Forming a bond does nothing useful biologically speaking.
