Yup. Before I was married, I went thru periods of being abstinent. It just described a time when I wasn't having sex.

Here, those who promote it are just doing it to buy time. I suppose there are some kids in tight religious cultures that expect the kids to wait until marriage (like those who are LDS), but for the most part it's just to buy time OR to be age-appropriate.
It's much easier to tell an 8 yr old to wait until marriage than other readiness conversations.

My dad is extremely old fashioned ... SO and I aren't allowed to sleep in the same bed if we stay over there. We're 29, been living together for 8 years and have a child ... but we still have to have seperate beds because we're not married.

lol. now thats funny. my gf might move in with me and my parents after the baby is born and they havent said if we could sleep in the same room or not. we are both 17 tho. i hope we can. i mean whats the big deal now. she is gonna go on birth control.

since you live together you should be able to sleep in the same room. what does he think you do at home.

I think he tends not to think about it.

I obviously knew what a period was and its purpose and that it stops when you get pregnant...but she didn't go in depth about ovulation and all that. Most parents don't. Plus my mom and I aren't close and it would have been incredibly awkward hearing those things from her. I'm not even sure she even knew all the ins and outs herself.

My high school taught abstinence as no sex before marriage.

Yep, I educated myself by going on forums and stuff. I know a lot about conception, pregnancy, stds, childbirth and all that.
