Has anyone gotten Essure?

posted 6th Dec
I have my 2 week follow up for my D&C soon, and doc wants to discuss birth control options. Will be 35 soon, and IMO it's too old to try for more children. Instead of DH having to go through a vasectomy, do you think this is a good option?

Any experiences with it?

Thanks!

I just had it done nov 2 during my c section. Im not sure if its from that or coincidenc but my recovery was a little more painful this time. A friend of mine has it too and she said shes had no pain associated with it except when shes having her period and her cramps are worse than before but thats it.

I figured this was less invasive than DH having to have a vasectomy.

And please do share... what horror stories?

I looked into it but DH is fine with getting a vasectomy when we're done having kids so that's what we'll be doing

I looked into it and wasn't happy. I didn't feel that there were enough studies on long term reactions. Also, I've heard of a few people who did not have the tubes sealed at the 3 months mark, or the little springs shifted or things like that so it didn't work. Yes, they check at 3 months, but you still have to deal with it then.

I had a tubal instead and I'm happy with that choice personally.

Hmmm. Interesting, thank you! I would rather get my tubes tied. Me and the girls have insurance, and DH does not. So it would be more beneficial for me to get this taken care of than us pay out of pocket for him.

That made my mind up. Thanks

Yeah. I seriously thought about Essure. It was tempting! At the end of the day though I felt like I'd rather go through a bigger "procedure" now where the results are pretty well known. Essure has only been approved in the US for 10 years. That really isn't THAT long, you know? It really made me hesitate.

My recovery was a little rough for my tubal. It took about a week, but then it was fine. They went in through the belly button so I have no visible scars (the scar is in the belly button). No changes in my period. So far I'm VERY happy with it!

They can go through your BELLY BUTTON??? Wow... If I were to do that, how long do you think I would be out of work? I have a desk job

Yep. He warned me that he MIGHT have to do another incision. It would depend on when he actually started to know. However, the only incision he made just looks like another line in my belly button. I had it done a few months PP, so not right after a baby or anything.

If you didn't have to lift or anything you could probably go back sooner. Also, I don't think many people have as difficult time as I had. I have a uterine prolapse, and the procedure took like double the time it was supposed to. So I had a LOT of soreness and trouble with the gas they use to sort of inflate the area. Like, I couldn't lay down because it felt like the gas was pushing on my lungs and I couldn't breathe. With the vicodin it wasn't nearly as bad though, lol.

Most people can return to work within a few days. With a desk job I probably could have within about 3 days or so. It really took me about a week however to feel pretty good, but again, few people seem to have as much trouble as I did.
