Yeast infection? TMI

posted 6th Dec
Okay, so I went to L&D Monday night having excessive, painful contractions. They checked my cervix and monitored me for a while, gave me a shot to stop the contractions, checked me again later and sent me home with instructions to come back if they weren't any better or got any worse. 12 hours later I was still having them every 1-2 minutes so I went back just to make sure I wasn't dilating at all. The nurse that checked my cervix Monday night never said anything about a discharge. The doctor that checked me yesterday evening did. He said I have a possible yeast infection. I've had yeast infections and they make me itch like crazy. I hadn't noticed any discharge previously and didn't have anything actually coming out of me. If I insert a finger though there is discharge in there, it's just not making it's way out. Thing is, I'm not in any discomfort or pain at all and it's grittier and less creamy than the yeast infection discharges I've had in the past. Is there anything else it could be? I have an appointment tomorrow and plan on asking about it but I'm a little grossed out and kinda wondering why it popped up right after having my cervix checked the first time.

It could be bacterial vaginosis & that is similar to yeast, but generally less itchy & much riskier for causing contractions. Did they swab you for a culture? Is there a fishy odor - that is characteristic....

Nope. Not sure why they didn't. Our hospital is pretty smurffy most of the time. Would it be possible to have had that transferred to me while I was in there? Because that discharge was not there this weekend. I would have noticed.

It's possible, but it is rather common, so it's hard to say. :/

We haven't had sex in the past 2 weeks, I've been having too much cervical pain so I can't think of any other way unless it just happens on it's own. I would think he would have mentioned this if it's a preterm labor risk, wtf. The discharge is clumpy like with a yeast infection, it just feels less creamy and more gritty. If you've ever had a cervical biopsy, they use a dye that turns into something that feels and looks like coffee grounds and this is similar, albeit much less uncomfortable.

Well I googled a bit & did finda few places where women with BV did say their discharge felt gritty, although that was a new one on me.

If you want to see if it is - you can buy an over the ounter test to test your own pH & that will tell you - Vagisil sells one & the directions are on the package as well as how to read results.

If it wasn't so late I probably would but my doctor is probably going to do the test to see if I'm at risk for preterm labor tomorrow anyway, so I'll just have him run a culture. I feel gross :/

Yes, but nothing like it was. They're not nearly as frequent or as intense. One odd thing though is for the past 2 days I've been feeling my let down reflex like when you're breast feeding and the nurse said it was just because oxytocin also causes that reflex like it does contractions, but I never had that happen with my BH before in this pregnancy or in my first one.

I had the same thing asked my doctor today and he said it is totally normal to have the gritty discharge after a yeast infection is cured because it desnt go away fully when pregnant

It seems that what you are experiencing is not typical of vaginal yeast infection as you have mentioned that there is less discharge and there appears no irritation or discomfort. Other possible problem includes bacterial vaginosis, chlamydia or Trichomoniasis. There is a need for you to ascertain the real cause and discount this more serious conditions.

It was nothing. They said it was just discharge and was no infection of any sort. I think it was caused by the gel they used to check my cervix because I wasn't actually producing it. It was only there the day after they checked me, then it was gone.
