That is ridiculous! The doctor's only come around once?! Ours were practically always making their rounds. Does your nicu have on site lactation consultants? Sometimes they can push the doctors to respond faster since the poor nurses always have so much to do.

in nicu they don't weigh diapers..on pediatrics they weigh diapers because they dont need an completely accurate weight...just an estimate.. in niu they physically weigh the baby nakie... its much more accurate that way. they do it every 3 hrs here.

Have the nurse put a note in his chart to have the Dr call you and schedule a time to meet up maybe to discuss your sons healthcare.

That's ridiculous. If LO has been on breast milk the whole time and is now being bottle fed, then dippity do doc should have ok'd you for breastfeeding along with it. I had similar issues when my youngest was in the nicu. In fact, we saw him (the doctor) once, the whole time we were there.

yeah. we have lactation consultants but they don't see the drs very often. only when observing babies breastfeed but it think it would be rude if she brought up another baby while working with another fam.

I don't think the nurses are allowed to take him off so that you can feed. What if he suddenly began to aspirate because he isn't used to the feeling of a breast? Wait for the doctor and express that you wish to start breast feeding. Right now he's getting what he needs and I know you're probably longing for that physical bonding to begin, but the doctor would probably have his/her reasons for not giving the okay just yet.

Lol I was gonna say.. ours doesnt weigh diapers either.. its all based on intake.. like my preemie is on 15mL's per feeding now, but they go up 1mL every other feeding... (15mL's was the last dose)

Different hospitals I guess. Our nicu just weighed the diapers.

I wouldnt think that would be very accurate....

No request a meeting with her and she can usually call him. Our doctor's always took them more seriously then the nurses for some reason it was strange.

Yeah, there were a lot of things I took issue with at this hospital.

Our nicu does the same. But they also weigh the baby every 4 hours.

Yeah... this hospital as well. My Anesthesiologist was a bitch for my birth.. and im not happy with the nicu all the time, but rules are rules.

thats funny... i can imagine though...because nurses probably irritate the smurf out of the drs. esp with persistent moms like me...

My anesthesiologist was great. Very nice. However, it was a little disconcerting to have the gas mask over my face, about to be put under, and in skips the neonatologist, leans over my face and says, "Hey, I'm the baby doctor" and walks away. They also wouldn't let us take any pics of our son in the nicu. Total BS.
