Actually historically other people besides parents helped raise the child. One mother, And one father doing all the child rearing is a fairly modern concept in the scheme of things. I also don't see women refusing to stay home as leading to any real issues :-P.

Traditionally, it was extended family and "community, but seeing as we don't live in the same types of close knit communities anymore and very few people live with households that include extended families, this doesn't really count. Mary down the street whose only interaction with your family is babysitting while you work doesn't count as the same thing.

Why not? Children learn from their interactions with all groups of people.

It wasn't just family members. My grandma was raised by her nanny, along with countless generations before her. Her mom and dad had governesses.

No one ever watched me and I had no cousins or playmates my age when I was a baby/toddler. I grew up around adults, all the time, I was always ahead in speech, physical milestones and then in school I did spectacular. My older daughter has a cousin 6 months older than her that she has played with since birth and she still baby babbles a lot. I think it just depends on the kid.

Nope, it is pretty 50/50 with our family as far as time with the kids and contribution to the household.

i guess we do, although I go to school on top of doing the cooking and the cleaning. I honestly can't wait to have a job though and school brings me some balance in my life. I rather dislike being a stay at home mom. I like the cooking and cleaning part, but I'm one of those people who get bored by being at home. I really wish I loved it. My mom was always at home and I thought I would follow her example

Thats odd because 99% of dysfunctional families I know seem to have BOTH parents at home all the time.

So should kids not go to school? I'm not talking about infants, I mean pre-school aged kids. I'm a school teacher and I can promise you I'm not raising anyone's kids but my own.

Quoting ♥ Monkey:" Do your follow traditional gender roles? If so, why? If not, what do you do that is traditionally for the other gender?"

We really tried to lean neutral but our LO has been a girlie-girl since she 2 1/2 and she just turned 4. It's frustrating. I'm not a gilie-girl and she is into princesses! ugh!

No, daycare is not my raising my child but thank you. I went to daycare growing up and I can assure you that daycare did not raise me, it actually helped my social development.
