Diabetes Screening Test and GTT
posted 5th Dec
I am 28 weeks today and had to take the screening test at the doctor's office, this is the 1 hour one, which I failed with a level of 182. I had to do the same test earlier in my pregnancy, 10 weeks, which I failed the 1 hour test with a level of 141. That time when I did the 3 hour one I passed, I don't remember what my numbers were but I was only high on 1 of 4 results which they consider passing. I'm hoping for the same this time, I hate to have to do that awful test again but it was either that or go to a diabetes class like I have GD already so I chose the 3 hour test. Has anyone passed the 3 hour test despite having a 182 or higher on the doctor's test?

I did not. But TBH if they were to tell me I could go ahead and test my sugar daily or take the 3 hour test, I would skip the test. I hated it. Good luck, though!

They told me I could either do the class and be treated as a diabetic or do the 3 hour and I'd rather do the 3 hour than to have to cut out all carbs and sugars from my diet.

i guess it could happen i have fail both but i take my sugar 4 times a day so they didnt make me re take the test cause i keep up with them already i am 29 weeks and i went to the doctor today and the nurses said something about retakening the 1 hour test again today but i had ate before the doctors but when my doctor came in the room she said i didnt have to retake it cause i already know i have GD and i keep up with my sugar but if i was you i would keep a check on it if you even failed one test you dont want a 10 lb or 11 lb baby born to possible diabetes

Obviously they're going to monitor that for me since I tested high today. I'm just hoping it will work out in 2 weeks for the 3 hour one and I won't get that diagnosis of GD.

they normally make you montior that yourself

They didn't say anything about that. Just "Your number is 182" pull out a planner and "When do you want to take the 3 hour test, we can do the 19th, 20th or 21st in two weeks or the week after Christmas. Doing it after Christmas you'd have to watch what you eat during Christmas."

hats good i think lucky you i wish i didnt have to watch what i eat lol

I don't want to have to watch what I eat, ever. I am SO bad about keeping up with things like that. I could never do a successful diet because I was so bad about keeping up with calories or Weight Watchers points or fat grams. I can't keep track of stuff like that. I do well to eat 3 times a day and when I was using a personal trainer before my wedding he suggested I eat 5 times a day and I was like "Are you kidding me?! Who has time for that?!".

I got to thinking about what I had done differently the last time I had to take the 3 hour test and the 1 hour test (at 10 weeks pregnant) and now when I thought about medications I take. When I recently did the 1 hour test at 28 weeks I took my Allegra and Flonase that morning as usual. When I did the 3 hour test at the lab when I was 10 weeks I didn't take the medicines because I couldn't drink water. However at the first 1 hour test I did, 10 weeks pregnant, I took the allergy medicines. Does anyone know if those have any effects on high sugar levels? I'm trying to research it some myself but haven't found anything conclusive.
