Essure permanent birth control

posted 5th Dec
I so went in today for a consultation about getting my tubes tied, he said if I really wanted the traditional surgery he would do it, but that they have had this 'Essure' out now for about ten years and falure rate is minimun to none about 0.03% where as a traditional tubal (where they either clamp or burn the fallopian tubes shut)is 0.55%....its like this little metal springy thing that they insert right in to your fallopian tubes, then scar tissue grows over it in about three months preventing sperm from being able to reach the egg, there is no hormones, its done right in the Dr.s office, recovery is a breeze and it very close to 100% permanent! So I am really interested in this option, my question is has anyone else had this done or heard anything about it?

I had this done on Friday and it hurt. Not like child birth hurt, but was still sore all weekend. The Dr visit was easy and quick. I recommened it.

I don't like it. I've heard of it failing a lot more then that. I wonder if they mean the failure rate AFTER the 3 month period maybe. After 3 months yuo have to go in and have imaging done to see if it sealed. I've heard of quite a few people whose was not healed closed at that point. You also have to use another method for those 3 months (longer if it didn't work).

I don't think it has nearly the amount of research as a tubal, so I did not do it. I had my tubes tied. No regrets and no babies yet.

Yes he said he would give me the Depo prevara (how ever its spelled) because it lasts three months, and I would only need one shot

Nope. She had the depo and everything. I think she had it for 7 months and then got pregnant.

This...I went online to do research and I found more horror stories than anything else.

Went ahead and got my tubal ligation done about a month ago.

Why would he recommend something to me being that the information they gave me on it is wrong? He said they have had a wide success with this over any other form of BC...

I wouldn't want even one shot of that smurf. Seriously. I was on it before and it's horrid.

Because it's all opinion. Some Dr's have had patients with good experience. Some don't follow up with patients. Some think it's great. Others have had problems with it. Just like anything else, opinions on it vary.

What was you experience with the depo? if you don't mind my asking? my sisters both got it one gained a significant amount of weight(she was on it for two years) the other has lots of bleeding after the first six months...I also know three other women that are using it now, and they dont look or act any different, they say there cycles have not changed since starting it, one was three years the other two are a little over a year
