No one is throwing me a shower?

posted 5th Dec
My best friend lives hundreds of miles away, and she was my only really close girlfriend, I don't really have an enormous social life and most of my friends have moved to different cities over the years and we've become less close. My mom isn't likely to throw a shower for me, and my mother in law is mentally disabled. I don't honestly think anyone will throw me a shower.

I want to throw a shower for myself but find a friend who is willing to sort of co-host and help brainstorm a location, etc. Someone I don't even know that well told me I was tacky, greedy and just "begging for presents". I don't need any of the "big stuff" because I already have a three year old. I just need some of the more simple things like newborn clothing, washcloths, new bottles and some other fairly inexpensive newborn items. (since I used playtex drop ins and they don't make them or the bottle liners anymore). Though the items I need aren't that expensive, they would be if I went out and bought them all myself. I tried to keep as much as possible but I have a really small house and couldn't keep absolutely everything.

I am basically known by my friends as a very... not flashy person. I am satisfied with simple things, more than happy with used items from thrift stores, and I am not the kind of person who just begs for gifts. I just don't see how throwing a party for my unborn child is any different from throwing a birthday party for my three year old.

It's not tacky to throw your own shower. To the older generation it is but who cares? Could you do a cookout or something along those lines?

Really? I'm in Kalamzoo, and they aren't at target, our local grocery stores, babies r us or anywhere else that I've seen. Isn't that bizarre?

I would if I were you. Who cares if other people think it's tacky?
Also, they still do make Paytex drop-ins and liners. That's what I use for my son.

I bought mine at Target, but always buy the liners off Amazon.com because they're a lot cheaper. They have the bottle starter set there, as well.

That's exactly what I was thinking, sort of a low key even with sort of snack foods and appetizers, nothing super fancy or over-the-top.

We used to have an off brand sold by a local grocery chain and they were super affordable, but all the sudden they stopped carrying them in this area. It's really odd that they still have them in other places and online though. Thank you though! I might still switch to Tommee Tippee because I've heard so many great things, but they are very expensive!

Thank you ladies, I'm glad to know I'm not a "tacky, greedy, begging-for-presents" kind of girl. lol. Jeez. I'm pretty sensitive and that really hurt my feelings. Not to mention the pregnancy hormones.

If you don't want to throw your own shower, maybe your boss or a coworker would allow you to place their name as HOST on the invite? You could do all the planning and prep and nobody would have to know it was you as long as the host were to attend.
