My VBAC Labor Story!
posted 5th Dec
Yay! So it all started December 3rd, but the week before I lost my mucus plug and had a bit of "false labor" 48 hours after a membrane sweep. So anyways, I just woke up with a strange feeling that something was going to happen. Mother's intuition is crazy! So I got up early, took a long bath, shaved my legs and vagina (for what I hoped and prayed would be the last time before having baby!!!), exchanged all my nursing bras, and ran some other errands with family. That night I just felt strange. Idk how to describe it. I just felt a little "out of it". So I took another bath and laid down with my older DD in our bed to read while she fell asleep. Got up to pee at 1:00 am (by then Dec 4th) after I had already peed a million times, and for some reason I thought "Let me just do a tiny push to see what happens" (literally most random thought ever). So I did and sure enough my water gushed out into the toilet, then I stood up and it gushed down my legs and just kept gushing with every sudden movement. So I go into the living room to tell my SO it was time and to tell him to get his gramma to come lay in bed with DD and sleep with her because she had come into town a day after my false labor to help us with her once the real thing happened. So I'm trying to finish packing my bag and get dressed with a towel between my legs, and I was so frazzled. We got to the hospital around 2:00 am, and I was brought to the monitoring room and the nurse confirmed my water had broken. I was still only dilated 1.5 cm and contracting every 7-8 mins. I was so scared thinking my VBAC wouldn't happen if I didn't progress. So I guess around an hour later, I was admitted to the laboring room. Once I got up there I was checked and found to be at a 3. Contractions gradually got stronger and closer of course and next time I was at a 4. Around this time, my contractions started killing me. I guess they were more intense because of my water breaking. I ended up getting the epi at 4-5 cm and it was amazing except for the fact that I was shaking like a damn leaf (probably due partially to nerves). So I got the epi at 6:30 am and it fully kicked in by 7:00. Now all I had to do was wait. The nurse would come in and reposition me to help me progress more. Once I got to 6 cm I progressed FAST and was fully complete and ready to push by 11:30 am. I felt a ton of pressure and all I could think was,"My doctor better get his ass in here fast or I will push her out into the floor!" Finally the doctor came in around 11:40-11:45 and I began to push at 11:50. I held my own legs, and the nurse and doctor helped. My SO stayed beside me to reassure me. He was great even though he was scared to look lol. I pushed for thirty minutes total. The coolest parts were reaching my hand down to feel her crowning and then helping the doctor pull her the rest of the way out and plop her onto my chest immediately for skin to skin. Brooklyn Elise was born at 12:20 PM December 4th (38 weeks, 5 days) weighing 7 lbs, 13 ounces and 21 inches long. I only suffered a second degree tear and a few stitches, other than that my labor and delivery was PERFECT and everything I dreamed of. I'm ecstatic that I was able to reach my goal of a VBAC and encourage everyone else to do it if they don't want a repeat c-section! My daughter is in perfect health and even though I've only slept for maybe 2 hours since Monday, I'm one happy mama!
Thanks for letting me share!!!

Congrats! Sounds like it went well.
Isn't water just gushing out of you every time you move just the yuckiest feeling?

Congrats on the VBAC! I had one in July of 2011. I had a VBA2C but having a VBAC at all is an amazing feeling , especially if you worried a lot of your pregnancy or if you worried at the time and it all goes well.

It was one of the best experiences of my life! Women don't realize how powerful their bodies are and let fear take over their choices too often! And my older DD is 3 years apart from DD2. Good luck on having a VBAC with your next one! You can always PT me and PM me any questions about it
