My DS is 2 and my DD is 5. She has recently decided that she want everyone to kiss her on the cheek and that is the only place she will kiss someone. She said kissing on the lips is "gross because everyone has germs". They just went through a "week of hygiene" tips about how to avoid spreading sicknesses. A lot of younger kids in her school were missing because of a flu/cold they were passing around. I don't know if it will change again. But I only kissed my kids on the lips (other than DH obviously LOL), the rest of my family it was the cheek anyways.

My 4 and 6 year old will sometimes kiss on the lips, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

That being said, I won't kiss them on the mouth because they are such little germ factories

Quoting P.S I'm pregnant ♥:" Do you allow your children ? Is it appropriate? Explain. *do age and gender play a factor ?"
I don't see it as an issue. We kiss my DD on the lips. In my culture, it's not inappropriate to kiss family on the mouth as a way to greet. So, at almost 30 years old, I still kiss my brother, sister, and parents hello/goodbye on the mouth. It's probably unusual to some people outside of our culture, but it's normal for us. Now that I live in the US,we still do that, and I don't think DD finds it odd. It's not like there's any sexual connotation or intention behind it.

Depends on age, not so much Gender. If my one year old wants to kiss my 8 year old son on the lips she does it. He's not a weirdo and he thinks it's gross cause of the slobber so I'm not worried. My 6 year old IS NOT allowed to kiss his sisters on the mouth cause he's a little weirdo and tries to make out with his 3 year old sister.

DD has kissed her brothers on the head. I've only kissed her on the lips maybe 3 or 4 times since she was born? I just don't kiss my babies/kids on the lips, mostly on the cheek. I won't care if they want to give each other a little peck here and there, I won't discourage it or encourage it.

I think it depends on the kids. If that is how they want to show their innocent affection, then I see nothing wrong with it.

I grew with family kissing each other on the lips (including me). Then when I got older and and moved in with the family who does that I was like ew no kiss my cheek. It's just too intimate for me. I told them my lips are only for my husband (well future husband at the time). I find its just a personal preference.

I dont have an issue with it being appropriate....I dont kiss my kids on the mouth and they dont kiss each other on the mouth, simply to help prevent the spread of germs.
