how much do yoy pay your baby sitter?
posted 4th Dec
And does the sitter come to your home or theirs? Do they watch other kids or their own kid/kids? How much do you pay and is do you pay per hour or per work week?
I work 40 hours a week, 8.5 a day from 330 to 12am. I pay my sitter from 245pm to 1245am. That is 10 hours at $5 an hour equals $50 per day. She meets me 5 minutes from her house and watches her at her house with her 7 week old. Is this reasonable? I really wish I could pay $3.50 an hour maybe $3.75.
EDIT
How much is average rent and pay where you live? Cost of living is cheap here but average pay is $8 an hour and average rents is $650 for a 2 br apt

I think so. We pay ours 10$ an hour and she comes here without kids.

I think $50 is good for one child.
This is only a drop in/as needed rate but I pay my sitter $6 an hour per child so $12 total. At her house, food is included for my 5 year old. I also have a 6 month old. She has 2 kids of her own and has watched another infant before while watching mine.

Mine charges $2/hour per kid. She watches DD at her house (I drop her off). DD's there by 7:45 and her bus picks her up at 11. On non-school days if DH has to rork, she'll watch both kids until around 10 when he can pick them up.

I was a Nanny over the summer and got paid $14 an hour but they wernt your typically family. they were doctors and could afford that smurf
other familys, i let them choose in the end but asked for a min. of $20 total (mainly for my time and gas) and to take in consideration my degree in Ece. If it was during the day and they wanted activities or night time and the kids were sleeping.

when i worked i paid her 40/day when i worked 8 hours & 35/7 hours and anything less i paid 30-even if it was only 4-5 hours.
her house. she had her kids and 2 others besides my oldest ds. she provided food..i packed his diapers/wipes & milk.
& the cost of living varies. we pay 750 for a 3bd house (renting) but it was a steal..we were living in a 3bd apartment for 900/mo.

I run my own childcare in my house and I charge $17 a day for up to 8 hours after that it is $4 more an hour... I do a part-time rate of $4 an hour up to 4 hours. I think paying anything over $25 is crazy!!! Here where I live if I said I charged $20 a day people look at me weird lol
quoteposted 5th Dec
If I could do $20 to 25 a day that would be great. I know even $5 is not a lot, but to be at home with your kid who you would be watching anyway then that is good imo.
Thanks for the feedback

DAMNNNN! I need to move after reading how much you guys pay for childcare. I live in NY and you can't get anything cheaper than $10 an hour. My sitter watches Peyton on Tues and Thurs 8:15-5:15 and Friday 8:15-1 and I pay her $230 a week. The cost of living here is crazy though.... I happen to own, but you can't find an apartment for under $1000 a month here and that's for a small studio or 1br if you are lucky. I keep saying I want to move bc it's so expensive here, but for some reason I just can't bring myself to leave this God forsaken island LOL. Long Island is beautiful... even after Sandy lol

I get 650/month. I watch her 6 month old at her house 4 days a week for 8 hrs a day. I bring my son with me 2-3 days a week.
