Doctor appointment tomorrow..

posted 4th Dec
Tomorrow Im taking my almost 7 year old to the doctor to talk to him again about his behavior. About a year ago I talked to the doctor about it because he was having a hard time in school. He was in kindergarten and after seeing a specialist she told us she wont diagnose until hes at least 7. She wanted to see how the first half of 1st grade went. If it went well just keep doing what we are. If not then she would consider diagnosing him ADHD.
Hes been on yellow or orange more than green this year. Its only getting worse. The teacher emails me and tells me how hes doing and nothing we have done has helped. So tomorrow I will probably have the option to get medicine. Last time they had said Vyvanse. Im wondering how it works on other kids his age and how fast did you see a difference.....give me the low down please. I dont know if this is the way we are going for sure, but we are leaning towards it

My son is 4 & a half & he's already seeing a therapist once a week for his behavior. He just saw the psychiatrist yest & she said he def has some ADHD symptoms. She wants me to take him for a EKG & then we go back on jan 7th to discuss medication. I really don't want to go that route but it's getting really bad. He starts kindergarten next sept & he can't sit still for more than a minute & I'm not over exaggerating. His biological father is the same way. His behavior has been really making me depressed lately nothing works as for discipline. It sucks! Idk what they would put him on, she didn't mention any names as for meds.

My "little brother" was put on medication for his ADD when he was 6. From what I remember, the change was immediate. It took a while for him to adjust to the medication, and I'm fairly certain they changed dosage or something at one point, but it worked wonders. He is 16 now, and still takes meds. He is a totally different kid when he forgets to take it.

Thats how he is. Hes been like this his entire life. He went to preschool for one year and had problems in there. At 4 though they just wanted to say it was his age. Its clearly not. Ive tried a million things with him and nothing is working. Its time to do something now

Yeahi know! Everyone's always like 'hes a 4 year old boy' .. Yeah but that doesn't excuse some of te things he does. & he's very impulsive which is another symptom of ADHD.. The psychiatrist said you can tell the Diff from normal age behavior & other behavior.. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to calm him down a little bit. I rather start early than to start correcting his behavior too late .

I just wonder if we go the medicine route if I should start it on Sat so that way hes home for 2 days and I can see how it is for him. I dont want to give him something hes never had and send him to school. Im going to have to remember to ask the doctor about that

We have not tried that one but we are on a medicine search. My son was finally diagnosed at 5. The meds help him tremendously. ( he drew a map from memory the 2nd day, he finally started drawing people and rode his bike for the first time all that day). We have been on three different meds so do not worry if one doesn't work. Our doctor says its common I need to find the right one for each child. We are on a low dose continual extended release called metadate and it is our favorite

You should be able to see some kind of difference within an hour or two of taking the medicine. If he needs it it will help calm him and if he doesn't well you should get plenty of sleep the night before he takes it.
My son has Bipolar Disorder so he has a lot of ADHD symptoms, they tested him on Adderall to make sure he wasn't ADHD within an hour or two it was like having a child on speed. He cleaned his room in 5 minutes and then started cleaning the living room. Then he had a mood swing, a manic child on speed was no fun.

I can only imagine!
We just got our son of concerta and that was awful for a child with an anxiety disorder )( the smallest dose was too much)

The worse part about medicating a child is that seem to build up tolerance quicker than adults do. We had just found a medicine that worked a few months ago and now you can barely tell the difference from before he started.

Yeah the doctor said we should see a change pretty fast. I did get the medicine. We are going to start it on Sat so that I can see how he does with it before sending him to school. I dont want him to miss school so thats why Im waiting until then.
