Glucose Test

posted 4th Dec
I went for my Glucose test on 11/29 from 8:15 until about 11:00.I just went for a checkup today and I forgot to ask my doctor about my results from the test so I went back and the nurse in the nurse's station pulled up my results and told me I failed my glucose test. I asked her if that meant I had gestational diabetes and she said yes. But I looked up online some things about gestational diabetes and they said they usually have you take a second test and if you fail that one too then you have gestational diabetes. Just trying to figure out if I'll be tested again or if that was my only test. Also does it harm the baby by me having gestational diabetes?

You should be tested again the three hour test. I would get a new doctor how did they not tell you that you failed?! WTF

You should have had a 1hr test the first time and a 3 hour test if you fail the 1 hour.

Its super weird they didn't inform you of failing, GD is no joke
But yes, they make you do a three hour test. Failing the 1 hour doesn't always mean you have GD.

sometimes if you have a very high result they will say you probably have it! I am not sure what the cutoff is maybe over 200

Yeahh lol that's what I thought. Also the nurse said I'd be referred for diabetes education, as if I already have gestational diabetes. It's probably something I need to tak to with my doctor instead of asking the nurse.

If you fail the first test, they usually have you do the 3 hour test. Gestational diabetes can typically be controlled by diet and exercise. If not, you may be put on a medication. I'm on Glyburide because my fasting levels are always too high. I know of another mama on here who is insulin dependent. The biggest worry that I know of is that the baby could be born too big and increase the need for an episiotomy or a c section. They'll test the baby's blood sugar when it's born too.

I had to retest, and the second one was low, so they decided I didn't have it. they should have told you! and even if you do have it, it isnt as bad as you think. I have a friend who had it, and she just had to keep a food diary and show her doctor. she never had to alter much... some have it worse though. good luck!

Yeah, your levels were probably really high. But still. Mine were off the charts with my 1 hour, and i still had to do the 3 hour test.

Oh okay, the nurse didn't really go into to much detail. Just said I'd have to go for educations. So it must have been high.

It can also cause a stillborn. Scary smurf.
