Hmm. I have a best buy card with a $500 limit. I got that like a week after I turned 18. Must have been worth something because I bought a new car exactly 6 months after I turned 18.

1st premier bank was the only one that would give me my card. Also, you are entitled to one free credit report from each credit bureau. annualcreditreport.com. It's completely free, no sign up or credit cards required.

the more cards you apply for, it affects your credit too. it puts a mark on your report.

Secured cards. Seriously. We used that to rebuild my husband credit. You give them 300 or whatever the amount is, then use the card like a credit card (making payments and all). They report those things, but they let you do it because they are holding that money so they are not at risk.

so a secured card is where you put money on it up front and just spend it on the card? and that helps build credit...?

Yep. Every time they run your credit to apply it shows up and effects it. This is so people don't suddenly have a TON of new things on their credit, so it can be seen that they are attempting to get credit.

Yep. Say you have a 300 limit, which is pretty typical. You give them 300 taht they hold, then you use and pay on the account just like a normal credit card. You build credit like you would with a regular card, but places allow you to have the card because they are holding those funds in case you don't pay. It removes their risk so they'll give them to people with bad credit.
