I don't feel anything.

My first thought is "is that real?"

my second "that really sucks"

my third "why the smurf is this person taking a picture"

Obviously it's a photo of a guy that is about to die, published on the front page of a paper with no warning or anything. Very high probability of being a trigger for people. Disrespectful towards his friends and family. Like the fact that he died meant nothing but an opportunity to make a paper stand out with shock value.

I'm sure I'm wrong, but I like to imagine that it's a frame shot from a recording, because otherwise that's really sad that people would be taking pictures. If they were taking pictures of the person who did it, that would be different.

Just because it's already out there doesn't make it any less wrong.

Quoting ☮ Phuket:" thats what im thinking or why isnt he running in the other direction to get away frmo it??? idk obviously he was wating to be pulled up and no one helped."

I wondered this too, maybe he thought someone would be nice enough or have the heart to rescue him. I couldn't live with knowing that i could of helped someone but just stood there and watched while he was hit by a train.

It is so sad that people ran the other way instead of helping and the photographer decided to snap photos instead of helping the guy up. He could have easily been saved. If I were his family member, I would be very upset seeing this photo plastered on news papers and online. I don't think the photographer should be able to sell it to make a dime and I think it should be pulled from the media.

In looking up information, it sounds like there were not people around. They were avoiding the person who pushed him (a panhandler who was ranting). He was pushed and there was some confusion, but no one was that close. The photographer claims he was snapping pictures to alert the driver so they could stop, but it seems that it's agreed he wouldn't have been able to reach the man.

I don't think the photographer was wrong. I don't even think the picture was wrong. The only thing I truly hate is the way the picture was done on the page, with the captions. There are pictuers of very horrible things. I don't think that's wrong. i don't even think sharing them is wrong. However, it was done this time for the reaction, for the sales, and it's done with zero respect. THAT does not have any sense of journalistic integrity IMO.

I agree.

I think the picture should have been inside the pages where people could see it if they chose, not plastered on the front with those captions.

Business is business I guess

Yep.

And I think there IS a way to share things like that. Not front page with horrible captions like this. It just makes a mockery of the tragic event. It splashes it up for ratings and I find that sick. To be photographed for the future isn't bad, but it's all in HOW you respect those images and the people in them, you know?

Just kinda an add-on question.

Is this photo comparable to the widely-spread, infamous, yet controversial [sp] photos also released in the media, such as Buddhist monks setting themselves on fire, children running after the atomic bomb struck in Japan as their clothing and flesh is being burned from their bodies, or the execution of a Vietcong soldier?

Do you consider those photos equally as disturbing as the one I have in the OP? Moreso or less so?

It makes me feel sad. If that was my husband standing there and people were snapping pictures instead of helping him, I would want to push their asses in front of a train.
