My text isn't showing up with video, hmm.
Here

I know it needs to be rotated but it won't let me without flash :/

She has finally started signing without being prompted. I do ask her in the video but she had just signed it on her own while we were playing. (She's still a bit sick and needs a bath so please excuse her messy hair and general grogginess)

After her 2nd bday or before?

ASL can be a great tool for all kids, but especially when children have a delay in verbal language development.

Nothing cuter than a kid using ASL right!!

It's so great because she's starting to show that she understands how to communicate with signing. Before she would jut mimic.

I would prefer to use ASL as our primary language with her while at home, and this is definitely a a step towards that.

it was definitly closer to her 2nd birthday she started forming more words but not until after when she was able to ask for things like, food, or cup....Shes very shy though and will talk up a storm now when she is at home or her grandparents house, but if we have company over she will go back to not talking much. I wish i would have learned more sign language so that i could have taught her more.

Absolutely!

I sign with mine all the time. My daughter signed most words when before she started talking (which has only started recently, with speech therapy). It helps a ton.

Well that's good that she outgrew it with at least people she knew. It's alright that you didn't teach her more because what you did teach her I'm sure benefited her. Also if/when you have another kid she will be able to learn more with the younger sibling and that will actually help them both because they can sign with each other!

Do your LO's sign to each other? I think it's interesting the wide range of things speech therapy can help, including feeding issues, it's crazy. That's great that it's helping her.

I think a lot of parents of deaf children could learn a lot from situations like this. Like a child who has a language delay can learn some ASL and that foundation of language will help them actually learn a spoken language. A lot of people wonder why deaf people might lack in their English skills, but they don't always give them ASL as a primary language to learn with.

Bi-lingual children learn language at a slower pace but that's cause they are learning both at the same time. Being tri-lingual would be even tougher, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, even just a few signs!

btw, I have to send you a message about the donation thread. I just got home from out of state so I haven't had time yet. But I will
