I'm the opposite, before coming to BG I didn't even realize it was being done for cosmetic reasons. I was a bit shocked

So is female circumcision in other countries so should that be covered too?! I doubt anyone would say yes.

In australia they changed the law so u can not have it done in the hospital u have to find a surgeon who will do it privatley, that being said i doubt insurence would cover it here based on the fact it has been deemed a cosmetic surgery.

I never understood why they called it cosmetic surgery but insurance covered it. I don't think it should personally. Unless it is medically needed, of course.

Our insurance covers it. I think it should be covered, with a co-pay. I also think other cosmetic procedures should be covered. *shrugs*

I agree with you. If a procedure is medically needed it should be covered. But then it brings up like a breast reduction for back pain and neck pain. Which IMO should be covered if its causing pain

If it's for pain, then it's a treatment, not cosmetic.

but if it causes pain, then it's medically necessary.

Exactly. I've never looked into it so I don't know if they are covered if causing pain but they should

Same here. I knew people did it but I didn't know so many people did. I've never even seen a circumcised penis.

in the united states yes it is very widely known for a person to do so. but in other country and even some states do not do it anymore. the states who still do it are mostly in the south. and mid west. some states on the east coast are 50/50 and most of the west coast are not doing it as often as you would think. but most of the world is uncircumcised. just to let you know.

I know here, they do cover it... But you need to prove that it's medically necessary.

i'm pretty sure insurance company's still deem it as cosmetic, my aunt had a brest reduction due to back problems and eventually my cousin s ging to end up having one, shes 20 and a DD and shes soo tiny, as far as circumcision go, my insurance doesnt cover circumcision, no even if it is medically nesecary (sp)
