Pleasonton, isnt as bad as the south bay...but still bad enough, there was a lot of flooding, its a good thing we are getting a break right now, its supposed to be some what nice for a at least a few more days!

In so cal in march is good not like the bay area. Disneyland is a must if you can. Santa Monica beach. I don't know alto about la county since i don't live there Im in the IE but there is nothing out here. other than Disneyland and the beaches and the zoo. i can't think of any real child friendly things to do in LA only because i don't know about it.

If you're going to be primarily in northern California (around SF, etc), then I'd recommend:
Six Flags Animal Kingdom
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Pier 39

March will be pretty rainy and cold though.

May or even June would be better.

If you can make it down to southern California, then it doesn't really matter what time of year. There is so much to do down there, either around Disneyland / Hollywood or San Diego.
