I plan on having a open relationship with my son and kids to come. I don't think i'll have the need to "spy". My mom did it to me for no damn reason and it made me feel uncomfortable.

Yeah, I would NEVER read a journal or diary of any sort. That's for their own personal thoughts and feelings.

I put depends. I don't plan to let them ahve personal communication devices unmonitored - meaning no computer in their room, etc. I don't plan to let them have cell phones either...I don't have one either - I don't get lost nor feel deprived. When I had one I was far too easily accessible to people when I'd rather not be.

Anyway - I would snoop like if I thought my daughter was bulimic & I wanted to look for puke jars or something - but am I planning to ever go through emails & such. Lord I hope not. I may be overly optimisitc, but I am hoping to keep a reltively open relationship where I won't feel a need to ever pry or snoop.

So I just wanted to say, I was watching the news this morning, and I think you are a little less paranoid than I originally thought.
So I saw this on the Today show but for some reason couldn't find the article on a site that seems legit, so I will go with the site I found it out because the info is the same as what the Today said.

This lady was a former cop, who is now a major work out buff and does competitions and whatnot. She lost over 100 lbs and is straight up muscle now. She found out (it didn't say how she found out just that she found out) that more than 100 cops looked up her DMV info to find her address and what she looked like and are now following her around asking her out on dates  
She's now suing since the info is only suppose to be accessed for official use so she wants safe measures put in place so the system can't be abused.
