Hairbrushing help

I haven't even touched the hairbrush and Cora is crying and begging me not to brush her hair

I hate the battle every single day. I basically have to pin her down and brush it as fast as I humanly can.

Her hair gets so knotty. It's crazy.

And to top it off, she has sensory issues and doesn't let people near her head to begin with.

I used 2 types of leave in conditioner, and I am as gentle as I can possibly be. I don't know what else to do.

She is getting a haircut. I'm going to try and take 3-4 inches off and hope that it helps.

Layer it a little bit, it'll be easier to brush. I used to be like that when I was really young too. My Step-mom was the only one who could brush my hair. That's because she pretty much forced me to. I got nothing until my hair was brushed. I hated it though  


Is she willing to try and brush her own hair?

She will brush her own hair with one of those soft bristled brushes (I don't know what they are called)

but her hair is so thick that it doesn't get through the knots. It just smoothes the "top layer"

I know exactly what you mean. Does she let you do her hair? Can you put a braid in, or a high ponytail while she sleeps? Something to keep it together so it doesn't knot all up when she rolls around.

What about getting layers and having it thinned out.

I'd cut it into a short bob.

Do you brush from the tips up to the top?

Nope. She doesn't tolerate any kind of rubber bands, clips, bobby pins, braids... nothing

The only time I can get her to put her hair up is for swimming and that's cause she isn't allowed in the pool with it down

Yeah it is going to be cut soon.

And I always go from the tips the top.

Idk if this helps but when i was little i had the curliest most tangled haor and it was long and i screamed at my mom for even touching it. She got a spray bottle and sprayed a little bit and then made a pony tail with her hand and brushed downward that way i didnt feel pulling. She would also brush it while wet and that helped a lot too.

I do all that. The leave in spray conditioner, the "holding", all of it.

I'm going to get a few inches taken off her hair as soon as I can.
