My 37 week preemie....question...?

posted 4th Dec
she was born at 8lbs even. although she is big...her ped still considers her a preemie. not sure why and put her on neosure 24 calories...and needs to do a nicu follow-up even though she was only there for half a day..kind of confused..do drs always do this?

Usually 37 weeks is not considered a preemie. Why did she have nicu time? Maybe that's why he's considering her one?

A 37 weeker is term, not a preemie.

they took her there straight after birth. because of her color. i think they just wanted to check her oxygen levels...from what i am told nicu doesn't equal preemie... theres plenty of term babies that go there that arent considered preemies because of a nicu stay. so its kind of confusing.

That's weird. Maybe he just wants her to get the calories.

Needs more calories? Why? My son was 6.9oz -5 days past my due date and considered healthy.

Yeah if she just needed a little oxygen for a few hours that is not a preemie. She's not preemie size. I could see if maybe she was like 5 lbs and 37 weeks. But she sounds just fine. Idk why he'd put her on preemie formula. I would call in the Mornin and ask.

6lbs IS healthy...so is 8lbs...maybe the baby has reflux or something. that would explain the baby being maybe at risk of losing weight.

how was she developmentally? were you diabetic?

were you literally 37 weeks... or just shy of? (even 36 weeks and 6 days would be considered preterm)

any complications at birth?

i rounded up to 37 weeks. she was actually 36 weeks 5 days but i didn't think it made that much of a difference

Reflux being diagnosed so soon after birth?

Oh then yes I think "technically" that can be considered preemie.
