Smoking

posted 4th Dec
I only have a few smokes left. After this pack im gonna try and quit again. I'm gonna go buy a little note book and make a tally of every time I think about smoking. Each time I get to 20 I will add $9. Every week I will add up my total. The object is to see just how much money I waste if I actually smoked every time I wanted to. I will see how much money I could save and hopefully think my way through this journey. I want to go for walks with my son without having to stop to breathe. I want to exercise without getting out of breath. I want to not smell like an ashtray. I don't want to have to air out my bathroom 20-30 times a day. I want to have the money to go see a movie with SO rather than spend it on a day or twos worth or burning money. I just want to be free of this once and for all.

If you call the quitters hotline & do a session of phone counseling with them then they will send you patches, gum ect.... for free

I've tried it all. I'm going with the approach of rationalizing my decision rather than weening and smoking replacement products. I have used the hotline. To no avail. thanks though!

That's wonderful mama!!! I am so proud of you

That is a great idea I quit because I think it will keep you body during those craves and get you through wanting to pick one up. Especially when you see the rally's increasing you'll be going "wow what a waste that would have been". Definitely get someone close to you for support because it can be a very difficult road for some people. But it sounds like you have yours and your child's health and well ribbon mind so that should be really food motivation. Just remember how much you are helping you and your son by quitting because neither of you will be breathing in all those toxins anymore. And like you said you will be able to do more with him. Good luck mama!!!

Thank you! I have good support with my lil family. SO is a non smoker and LO of course like you said doesn't need the toxins around. My whole immediate family smokes except one sister and one brother so when I go over to their house at any given time 2-3 people are smoking so that's my biggest obstacle is not giving in there. I have to face it though. I can't avoid them as counter productive as they will be to my efforts. I have to be used to them smoking around me even if I don't smoke, right away. I have gone over there after being smoke free for a week and avoided them and lit up in minutes. It went horrible.

I will probably be hard to go there at first. But once you get out of the smoking mindset you may find it disgusting. Who knows. But yeah avoidin it won't help because you'll want it. Facing it and reminding yourself "that's now the life I want for me or my child" will help. And just think, do you want yor child to grow up a smoker? Because most children of smokers do.   that's not what you want for your child either I'm sure. Just keep reminding yourself of those things.

I am a bit over twice that on months I don't drive the 3 hours to the reservation. Then I'm spending like $1.80, but still it adds up with 6 hour drives there an back worth of gas too. Either way its a waste. :/

Nope not at all! I think that's why out of 5 kids 3 of us smoked. It's bitter pill to swallow that so much of my bad habit effects my son. I try as hard as I can not expose him to smoke. I smoke in my bathroom with the door shut, window open and blower on but you can still smell it and if you can smell it that means its still in the air. It's another story with my family. They have no intention of not smoking around the kids. It's a generation thing they can't break. 2-3 decades ago alot of people smoked around their kids. They can't shake it.

And the toxins still get on yor clothes so LO is still breathing it in. This is definitely the right choice mama. And your heart is in it. That's how it needs to be. People who just quit on a whim usually don't stick to it. But oI have real motivation and determination and that's what it's gonna take to kick it.

I kinda wanna scream thinking about literally lighting on fire stuff I bought. I don't burn my clothes, or my furniture or my food (most of the time) why in gods name do I want to continue to burn up money like this? At $8 a pack no less. That's a little over 2 gallons of gas. (Another thing I don't wanna light on fire lol)

Right. It's such a waste. What did you get from spending that money? Any satisfaction? It's just a waste.
