no period=cancer?

posted 4th Dec
I found this on babyandbump, and was wondering if its true??

Don't go more than 3 months without AF! They say your risk of cancerous cells increases after 3 months with no period (if you aren't pregnant, lol). So if it gets that long, and you are SURE you aren't pregnant, go to the doctor to get it induced with a progestin.

Uhh if it is my doctors lied to me. I've had years where I only have my period three times. I was concerned and asked, doctors all said that if that is what my body wanted, it's what would happen. Unless I was trying to conceive it wasen't a problem.

It probably just means it increases your risk of cancer. Yes it's not good to not have a period. Thats why our bodies were made to have one. When I didn't have a period for 3 mos my dr didn't say anything like that but yes she was concerned and wanted me to start so she gave me progesterone to induce them.

My doctor told me that I need to have at least 4 periods a year to avoid cancer risks. One year I only had 2 periods.

I went 4 years without one. But it's considered unhealthy to go more than 3 months because the lining of your uterus isn't shedding, just building up...and that can cause abnormal cells. My mom had uterine cancer, so this is a risk for me.

I went six years without one on the depo. They said I had increased risk of decreased bone density and osteoperosis (sp) but no mention of cancer. Doctors didn't tell me you shouldn't be on depo for longer than two years until I'd been on it for six

Typically 3 mos then you need to start. Someone else said above you need AT least 4 a year. I've heard that from a dr too.

Also, Just as a side note. When I was in my 20's I had a lot of abnormal paps, so did my sister. They ruled out hpv and said it was most likely cancerous cells. They did the colposcopy and wanted to do a biopsy of our cervixes. After my 2 years of very infrequent and screwed up menses, my pap smears recently came back totally normal and clean. Doctor said we have magical cancer killing reproductive organs lol

There's a condition- Endometrial hyperplasia - And I am guessing this is what they are referring to-

It’s true, going over 3 months without a period increases your risk of endometrium cancer. That’s why women with PCOS have a higher risk of endometrium cancer, because a lot of them typically have irregular periods.

I have PCOS and went about 7 years without a period on my own. My doctors have warned me about going three months without a period, if that happens I’m supposed to take Provera to induce the shedding of my endometrium. When I was TTC my daughter both my OB and RE did ultrasounds to check how thick the endometrium was. If it was over a certain amount of millimeters they would have done a biopsy.
