L&D Trip?

posted 4th Dec
I posted earlier but never ended up going to L&D mostly because I don't want to make an unnecessary trip out there because the nurses aren't very nice and I like to spend as little time there as possible. Well, earlier today I was having some really painful contractions that felt like my cervix was being pried open, almost like a really painful cervical exam. I had several of those today and they've stopped now, but I still just feel really bad. I keep having to poop and I keep having almost what feels like my let down reflex in my boobs but it's not quite that intense. They keep hardening up during it and it's usually right before a contraction. I've tried to just laying down and drinking water but it hasn't really gotten any better. No one in my family has pregnancy complications or pre term labor but I never experienced any of this with my first pregnancy. I'm only 29 weeks.

If I'm going to go I probably need to go soon because my husband has to be at work in 5 hours and someone has to be here with our son when he leaves and they like to take their time at our hospital. Am I just over reacting or should I go in?

Call L&D and tell them what you are experiencing. Most likely they will tell you to come in if you are experiencing pain. Better safe than sorry hun.

I hate calling my OB late because I know how much he works and it makes me feel guilty but I'll call the nurse at L&D and see what she says. I don't know why I didn't think to do that already. They say pregnancy knocks your IQ up to 20 points and I believe it haha. Thanks, guys.

Upon calling the response I got was, "Well, we're not doctors here. If you're in pain you should probably come in, I guess." I REALLY hate our hospital -___- Off I go. Thanks, again all.

In the ER I worked at we couldn't give medical advice over the phone. Because they said it was against the law or something. But it seems they got snotty with you which is no beuno

Wow.. my L&D would take all my sysmptoms down and either tell me what they recommended I do, and if that didn't help to come right in. Yeah.. your L&D sounds kind of snippy... lol. Some nurses I know are better qualified than doctors.

Well, I went in and was there until about 30 minutes ago. They were a little better once I got there. Third shift at our hospital is usually bitchy, no matter the wing.

Anyway, my contractions were like 2 minutes apart non stop so the OB on call came down to see me. I'm completely closed and not thinned which is good. They gave me 2 bags of fluids in case I was dehydrated, then they gave me a shot to stop the contractions, which only worked for about 20 minutes. Then the nurse came in and sat with her hand on my belly for almost an hour before deciding they weren't gonna stop but since I wasn't having any cervical changes I could go home. They told me to take it easy and come back if I have more than 6 bad ones in an hour. They're still every couple of minutes but they're just a little uncomfortable at this point. Hoping I don't have to go on bed rest

Hope everything will work out. You're still really early. I went in for something like this but they called it a irritable uterus I was having contractions but it wasn't doing anything. They sent e on pelvic rest and bed rest for a couple days. I would take it as easy as you can and lay on your left side and keep chugging water. Good luck

Same thing here. I've been having contractions back to back for 12 hours now, even with the mess they gave me to stop them. They told me if I had more than 6 "labor-like" contractions in an hour to come back but my labor contractions were never painful. They were exactly like this. Then they said if I can't walk and talk through them. Well, I've never had a contraction I couldn't walk or talk through so I dunno. I talked to my husband in between pushes during labor. The contractions were nothing. I worry because this is exactly like my labor with my son when I was induced. The first 14 hours I barely dilated at all with 2 minute apart contractions. I was only having them for 2 hours when they sent me home. I had them all morning while I was trying to sleep and I've continued to have them since I woke up. I'm just laying on the couch waiting for my husband to get home. I may go back to L&D when he does.
