Biophysical Profile?

posted 3rd Dec
I have to get one every week, until little man decides to come out. I've never even heard of them before and nobody I've talked to has had one before. I'm not sure what to expect, and everything I've heard says that people are typically induced within the week of their first.

Any mamas had them before? What was your experience with them?

I've been getting them every week since 33 weeks. Its just to moniter baby. If baby cooperates, it only takes a few minutes. They check your fluid levels, babys heartbeat, and movement. Nothing to it.

I got my 2nd one today and will have one every week now till baby is born. They r basically like a regular ultrasound, just measuring belly, head, arm, and leg size also they check heart and umbilical cord pressure. They r no big deal and u might even get some more pics. Doc will let u know if rhere is a concern at ur appt after the ultrasound. I like having them since i get to see my baby and know that hes doing great!

I have my first on Wednesday. They said they want to do it because he's measuring so much smaller than he should be. So it's making me nervous.

He's measuring between 3-4 weeks behind.

I understand how you feel. at my 21 week ultrasound I was asked if any of my children were born with abnormalities. the tecnician order another ultrasound at 23 weeks 3 days and as soon as that ultrasound was over she gave me a next apoitment for both a biophysical and growth ultrasound and I am freaking out of my mind. i hear biophysical ultrasounds are done after you over your due date or when there is a concern for the baby well being. I have no idea why they making go thru this because the doctors are not telling me anything. I am not trying to scare you or anything but I as well need to find some coffort or at least that the doctors can give me an idea why they ordering this test. The thing with me is that I am only 25 weeks along.

It's basically an in depth ultrasound. They'll take a bunch of measurements, including how much fluid is around the baby. Look at blood flow. They'll look at the baby's muscle tone, practice breathing, etc. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour. You may have an NST before the ultrasound, which is basically just them hooking you up to the monitor and watching the baby's heart rate. That takes 20-30 minutes. It really is boring, though it's nice getting to see your LO so much. I had them from 33 weeks on with LO because of GD and PIH.

Yep. On the days I had mine I had to have an NST and then the BPP. I made sure I didn't have anything to do those days. Lol.

Wow. My NSTs and BPP were on different days. My NSTs normally last an hour, while with my BPPs, i was in the waiting room longer than i was back having it done. They've taken me 20 minutes tops.

Ive had 2 biophysical ultrasounds and they only took like 15mins. I think it really depends how detailed they r getting and how good the tech is. They can measure and check heart, cord, etc fairly quickly. But if they r looking for smaller probs, smaller in size, then itll take longer.
