It's Jeremiah.

You have to look at the context. It also reads as fashioning the tree into an idol.

We are Christian in this house. DH disagrees with my trees and decorations though, for much the same reason you imply. That is his interpretation, but I have my own. We compromise in that DH doesn't agree to put any decorations up. If I want them up, I'm on my own.

i'm not christian with a christmas tree.  

Its only because its a pagan ritual .... Being a pagan I really couldn't care less.

Lots of people who aren't Christian have Christmas trees and celebrate Christmas trees.

We are Catholics, we do put up a christmas tree and at mass they also have a christmas tree all decorated.

As you can see, people put this verse into context however they so choose... as with much of the bible (: I am of the opinion that if you don't worship the tree, it's perfectly acceptable to have one. And if you DO worship the tree, then it's perfectly acceptable too, if that is what your religion or traditions or whatever dictate  

Basically, if you want a tree to decorate, get one and decorate it (Jewish, Christian, secular, I don't care, whatever you may be). If you want a tree to put up and tie it symbolically the birth of Jesus, do that. Don't let other people tell you what your tree is for, scripture or no scripture.

I guess I'm a Jew and I don't. I don't know anyone that is a Jew that has Christmas. But I'm sure they are out there.

We're Humanist (branch of Atheism) and we have a Christmas Tree and celebrate Christmas and go to the School Nativity play and what not, I couldn't really care less what a book tells me to do.

We're Pagan and we have a (fake) Christmas tree and a yule log. We talk about the Holly King and the Oak king. Decorate the out side trees.
