Is calling someone gay, who is openly homosexual, offensive? I'm trying to text a question to a friend, but I don't want to offend him.

I'm bisexual, and have a few gay friends. One in particular, we call eachother and others smurf's all the time. No offense taken because it isn't out of hatred.

Well Im not 100% certain but I would think in that context it would be ok to use gay. I cant think of any of my friends who would find it offensive. But you could just use same sex couple like you just posted.
