Did I mess up my supply? How do I fix it!?

posted 3rd Dec
So for a while I was just nursing her and it was going great. But she had colic. She would scream from 8pm till 2am like clock work. I put her on enfamil Nutraigem and shes so good now!! She sleeps through the night. But I know babies grow out of colic at like 3 months. So I wanted to keep up my supply so after this colic phase I could EBF. I have been trying to pump but often I dont get to at all. Told I only pumped 1 ounce, when before I could pump 7oz. I almost cried. What do I do?! Does the mothers milk tea work?? Please help!! I desperately want to nurse her. Should I give up on formula and just let her be colic??  ((

Just offer the breast as much as possible. Keep pumping. Drink a ton of water and the mother's milk tea helped me. And just a btw, how much you pump isn't an indication of how much you're making.

have you tried cutting all dairy and gassy foods out of your diet? those can make a fussy baby. and yes mother's milk tea works, so does straight fenugreek, oatmeal, dark beer ( it's the yeast) and drinking a ton of water. nothing works like a baby. So the pump could not be accurate. put baby to boob as often as you can.

Does she have colic or is she not getting enough? Have you spoken to a lactation consultant? I would start there. Try nursing her as often as possible it can help boost supply.

You should have adjusted things in your diet before giving her formula. BFing is supply and demand. If she is not demanding (by nursing), you will have little to no supply. Pumping is no indication of milk production. If you want to nurse her, you need to put her back on the breast. Remove green veggies and/or dairy from your diet. Those are usually the culprits. If you've done everything you can, then "letting her be colic" is not the answer. If she's happier with formula, that's fine.

Fenugreek, and mothers milk tea

Put LO back on the boob ASAP and try to cut out the formula. Pump after every feeding also!

It depends on how long you went without breastfeeding, but pumping isn't a good indication of how much milk you actually make.

Ibreastfed exclusively via pump only... My little one wouldn't latch on after we had to give her a bottle when she was jaundice. I know it's hard to pump on time everyday, but you have to stick to the schedule. I don't think you should give up just yet. Even if nursing is a problem, pumping is the next best thing.

Start a schedule and stick with it. I would try to pump at least three times a day (although I had a good supply, and only had to pump 2 times a day). The more you pump out the more your supply will increase. If all else fails call a lactation nurse and ask for suggestions. N o matter what you do I'm sure your baby will be fine. Try not to stress yourself out.

I adjusted it completely. I ate nothing with even a little bit of dairy. No milk, cheese, yogurt, chocolate.. Nothing. No gassy veggies. Nothing! I just had almond milk, pretzles, eggs, turkey, basically bland stuff.
