I think it's great.

My mom used to make my sister and I do that. I hated it then but I have made my kids do that once or twice. I see no problem with it.

I see no problem with humiliation being a form of punishment. The whole point of punishment is to make the action not worth doing. I say holding hands with your enemy in public would make a fight not really worth it. Why not? It's better than suspension where they get a free day at home.

I think he should have just given them the suspension and when they got back some meetings with the counselor and had them maybe do something together to improve things within the school.
I don't think that it was right to publicly humiliate them like that (those are the type of things they did in the mid-evil times) get back to the 21st century.
With that being said...I do agree that it is better than schools being allowed to hit your kids.

They humiliate themselves by publicly fighting so what is the difference of holding hands? If they didnt want to be "publicly recognized" for doing something bad they shouldnt have been fighting.

Fights happen all the time...just saying I think he should come up another form of punishment. He can't really make all the kids who fight do this and besides I am sure a lot of other parents would have a problem with it.

They had a choice.

Yeah I saw that, they should have taken the other one. At least he did give them a choice.

Of course they do and they are humiliating themselves by fighting. In highschool these teens knew better and holding hands for an hour is not going to damage them. Now they wont fight again where if they would have been suspended they probably would fight again and have something on their school records.

Would you disagree with this then too?

As its considered public humiliation?

lol. I think it's a great and creative punishment. It certainly made an impact for them.

Unfortunately for a lot of teenagers most fights are usually one or the other defending themselves. I know when I was in high school if you did not fight back you would have been picked on and bullied everyday by tons of other students.

I am glad he gave them a choice and like I said I am glad that it was not worse. Was it the worse punishment he could have given? No....but I still think he could have gone about it in another way. For ex: the way I posted above or something similar.

As long as they were given the choice, I see no problem.

Haha....that is actually a good one!

I still think it is just way too embarrassing for kids and idk...the high school one was a bit much...but they picked it over the other punishment.
