Getting your nails done... who is in the right? Long, but ap
posted 3rd Dec
Well today I got my first, and worst, manicure ever. Sucks, because it really upset my Mom because she just wanted to do something nice for me.
Well I am a nail design fiend, I LOVE doing my nails. However I like them kind of short and funky colored or semi-plain... no reds or stuff like that. I like glitters or plain colors, crackle, all that fun crap.
Well I asked my mom what a manicure was like, and how well gel nails stand up. My meds have made my nails HORRIBLE and my mom felt bad so she wanted me to get my nails done today. My Moms money is tight, it's tight for all of us, but she wanted me to get something nice.
So we go to this place in the mall right next door to her work... we both work in the mall. Instead of doing color and such, I decided for a french manicure. I think that's what it is... the natural nail with white tips. With UV gel. I had magnetic nail polish on already, and this is a crucial point to take note of.
Well the man starts doing my nail and takes off my nail polish. I hadn't put a topcoat on and this stuff was chipping... it is VERY easy to get this polish off, especially without the thick topcoat I usually put on. Well I'm not really paying attention to my nails, watching TV. Kind of liking the treatment. Although every now and then my nails stung for a moment. It was when he was buffing my nail near the cuticle, or pushing in on my nailbed once he put the tips on, before he cut them down. I have NEVER had this done so this may be normal for what he was doing. Well he started to do very square nails and I said I do NOT like square nails... they may be funky but I keep them more natural shaped, which means that natural oval. Not square. So he files them down, all is well. Cuts them short, I dont like long nails. These are barely longer than my regular nail, I like them shorter.
So we get to the end, I put my hands in the UV light, after he puts on the topcoat. All looks good.......
Except......
My Mom and I notice that he didnt remove all of the blue polish in the side bed of my nails. So I had blue nails in the sides... that's not okay. The man says he will fix it, but the other girl says "No your nail polish is too strong, it couldn't come off with the remover!" I'd maybe just maybe believe her if I didnt change my nail polish every 3 days. I have some blue polish that's a complete smurf to take off, lol, but otherwise this nail polish is some of the easiest. ESPECIALLY without the topcoat. But they file my nails at the side of the nail of my bed and remove it. But it is extremely irritating to my skin to have that done with the electric filer. Then, the filing isn't even straight. The sides of my nails are not uniform.
But here is the kicker. I lift my hands up to show my Mom how they fixed the color, and there are complete gaps under the tips to my regular nail. What I mean is that my regular nail is down, and there is a big gap and then the UV nail tip starts. I can stick pieces of paper, the edge of a stick of gum, a pen tip, etc... between the tip and my real nail. They are NOT adhered to my whole nail. There was fuzz inbetween the real and fake nail from the link in my pocket. We went back next door and told them... dude the nail isnt even adhered to my smurfing nail! The girl says "That is the way it's supposed to be." Then my mom says "Oh, your nail is supposed to be separated so that crap gets stuck inbetween the nails? That can cause infection because of bacteria not getting out." Then they say "Oh well that's because of the shape of your nail, it's curved and the tip is flat." Well, the tips werent flat. We don't know what the smurf they were talking about. She then said "The tips cant reach your nail because of how curved they are. We cant fix it, it's supposed to be that way anyways." Okay, for one, my nail is hardly that curved, my nails are quite normal. I'm always complimented on my nails and fingers because of how long they are, how well I take care of my nails, how they are painted, etc... I don't have funky nails.
So we ask for our money back, said to just take the nails off because this isn't the way they are supposed to be. They INSIST it's supposed to be that way. And say that they wont give any money back. We ask for the managers name/number and they suddenly begin to say they don't understand/speak English. All the girls in the background are chattering in chinese and they look PISSED. One girl looks at my nails and says "This is the way its supposed to be, you just have very curved nails!" They refused to fix it or refund the money. We said we'd contact the BBB and they said "No English! Good service no english!" Right. smurfs.
My Mom is worried with the crap I come across germ-wise at my job that something will breed in those holes. The sides of my nails hurt where they filed so hard.
We went to one other salon on our way home thats near our house. They took one look at my nails and said "That is NOT supposed to look that way, they are very wrong." So I'm not crazy... they are wrong! lol. They offered to fix them for only 5 bucks, but I am pissed that my Mom wasted money on a 50 dollar manicure and they are messed up. She was crying and said "I just wanted you to feel nice for once" because my meds have made me feel like ass lately. And as I said, my nails are so messed up from my hormones. I told her its not her fault and they are fine. She's just worried about things getting trapped and me getting an infection.
That being said... who is in the right? Should I be able to get my money back because they ARE messed up and they did wrong... or is that par with the course??
What would you of done? Oh, one of the people that work there gave me the evil eye when she walked through the mall later. Bitch has a stick up her ass!
