96% of political donations went to Obama.

It's not a shocker that the youth are more liberal. It's always been that way. The older generation tend to be more conservative, while the younger generation tend to be more liberal. Not to mention, I've always been under the impression that most teachers/professors are liberal.. at least in my experience.

Higher educated people tend to vote Democrat.

Not saying there's an intelligence correlation, but maybe that's why these universities donated to the Obama campaign.

So the fact that the majority of professors and University staff tend to be liberal automatically means our youth is being brainwashed?

I think you might be confusing cause and effect a bit here. There is pretty much a direct correlation between how educated and informed a person is and whether or not they are conservative/liberal. No, it isn't because universities force us to be liberal - it's because the more informed a person is, the more open-minded they tend to be, and the more open-minded someone is, the less conservative they tend to be. This isn't exclusive to college/universities, but also people with more diverse experiences and such.

Even many conservative politicians have admitted that educated people are the most difficult to swing over to the right.

Well of course. I also think younger people follow what's "trendy," like our president for example. I have very few friends my age that care or understand anything political

It isn't younger people making these donations. Did you read it? The people making donations are university staff and professors.

Obama most certainly was not the "trendy" vote this election, at least in Kentucky. My younger sister (19) and all her little friends were very outspoken about their support for Romney.

I am an educator and I am a strong Republican and so are most of my friends and co-workers. Its a myth that most educators are liberal. The government screws the school systems constantly and removes funding or cuts needed funding and yet we are suppossed tobe teaching theses students for careers that do not even exist now....technology is ridiculous!

In high school AND college, my professors were liberal. And I even went to college in Kentucky... a very conservative state. It just depends.

Colleges and Universities also tend to be more liberal because they tend to house students from a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. People might come from halfway across the world to attend an American University. Being exposed to that many different cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities, ideas, etc is probably going to produce a more liberal environment.

Conservatism tends to correlate with xenophobia, lack of desire to learn about other points of view, cultures, etc...which doesn't tend to fit in well with the university environment.

My post was eaten   This is true, I don't know why it is. After reading the demographics on this last month I decided to compare my FB friends who were vocal on their political stances. Out of 20 who were republican and 20 who were democrats. Out of those 20 for each, only 3 of them who were outspoken republicans attended any college, out of the outspoken democrats only 4 had NOT attended any college. Two out of the three republicans were also very conservative Christians.

Mhm, it's interesting. I live in a red state, but my county is blue. We have two huge universities here and I think around 30% of the population holds a Bachelor's Degree or higher.
