Nikon help!

My Nikon D3000 is screeching when i try to focus it. It just started doing it 20 minutes ago and twice it would focus and three times it wouldn't. Should i buy a kit and clean it or is it another problem? :/ I don't know a lot about it so i'm hoping someone can help!
