Period/PCOS Question... (Possibly TMI)

posted 3rd Dec
Ok, so I know having cysts on your ovaries will mess with your period and I'm sure that's what's going on (I don't think I'm pregnant.   ). We are trying though so, I guess it's not 100% impossible just very unlikely... Anyway, I thought I was just ''late'' because I should have started around the 10th (I quote that because my cycles have been messed up again the last 2-3 months anyway) My concern is I think I've finally started but, it's black/brown and stringy! Sounds disgusting, I know! I'm aware that old blood is brown (I've had ''brown blood'' before but, this seems different ... it's just so dark and stringy.) It's .. weird.. and actually startled me! lol. My question I suppose is should I be concerned? Should I make an appointment to see my OB/GYN or am I making a mountian out of a mole hill? I'm just new to this whole PCOS thing and I just want to make sure I'm not ''making things worse for myself'' or something by ignoring it... Thanks!

Have you thought about trying OPK's or BBT? If you aren't ovulating, which is very common for women with PCOS, then you're wasting a lot of time if you are TTC. As for the black blood, I don't know, I'd personally make an appointment with a doctor, just in case.

Okay, I'm wondering, have you been diagnosed with PCOS, or do you believe you have Ovarian Cysts? They're 2 different things. PCOS definitely does give you cysts, but they're not the same thing. If you have PCOS, then the weird discharge can be a normal thing. Not that anything associated with it is normal. I'd make an appointment with your OB just to get a check up and mention the discharge.

I have PCOS and have experienced the same thing before as you, I tended not to worry too much unless it was very painful or if there was a smell (which there wasnt).
If you have been trying and your late you could very well be pregnant, I have a 6 month old little girl now so it is VERY possible  .
It took until I was 8 weeks late for me to get a positive pregnancy test though if that helps. I took one a few days after my first period was due and it came back negative so you never know  .

It's always painful for me once it actually starts but, not at the moment and no smell... I really don't' think it's d/t pregnancy but, if I don't fully start soon I will test. At least it seems to be a ''normal'' thing so far.. thanks!

I have actually been diagnosed. I had a bad ER experience that led to a new OBGYN because my previous Dr. never ''noticed'' or ''mentioned'' any cysts or abnormal anything... According to her I do ovulate, just not ''regularly''...

No worries   I always got BAD period pain when I had them, so much so I had time off work etc as I couldnt get out of bed so I can imagine what its like.
I do remember though around about the time I got pregnant I got one of my 'funny turns' as I call them which I usually get before I come and had a small amount of like stringy bleeding. Which of course made me even more sure AF was round the corner but nothing, it was only when I started being sick I though I ought to test again lol.

I do ovulate, just not regularly... I have used OPKs but, not BBT... thanks for your input!

Oh, of course you ovulate. It can really mess with your cycles, but it doesn't mean you can't conceive. But PCOS can mess with a lot more than just your ovaries, so it might be something you can look into, so you might know what to look for/expect in the future.

Oh, I can relate to that! The first 3 days, I want to die! lol. I've actually missed work and even as a teen, missed school because of my period! So far the only odd thing this time is I went through the typical tender breasts but, usually they're sore about a week before and during... the tenderness has gone away (which is what led me to believe I wasn't getting a period but wasn't pregnant originally.) I still have the cramps and everything though so, I'm sure AF is coming now, just late. I swear, my body hates me!

I had to go to the ER (we thought my appendix had burst/was going to burst) because of the pain I was in... the ER doctor had to ''suggest'' I had PCOS which is when I went to a new gyno and SHE was the one who diagnosed me... makes sense why it's been almost 5 years or so and we haven't conceived! My original dr. kept telling me ''unexplained infertility'' ''just lose a little weight''

Oh, yes it can! I know what you mean! It's ugly! I've had all kind of ''fun'' things to deal with! haha. Thank you for your input on everything!

I went in when I was 11 with my 'appendix' so same conclusion but took till I was 20 to get properly diagnosed with PCOS.
I had just lost a stone when I fell pregnant, think I had been dieting for 3 months and that was the first month me and my ex werent careful.
