re: 37 weeks...Castor oil?

You still have 3 weeks, cool your jets lady. Castor oil is dangerous, it can cause your baby to have a bowel movement in utero, and that's no bueno. Don't try to evict your baby before they are ready.

I took it at 38 weeks to avoid induction. I took it at 6:55pm and was smurffing my brains out by 7:15. My stomach hurt the ENTIRE night. And I never even had contractions. The sad part is, I took LESS than the recommended dosage, I am SO glad I did though or I might have died from the pain in my stomach and constant smurffing.
Just saying, its NOT worth it.

There sure have been a lot of castor oil posts lately. Lots of extremely impatient ladies, I guess.
OP, it's not a good idea, if you haven't gotten that impression already. Baby will come when baby is ready. Castor oil will just give you diarrhea and possibly dehydrate you. Is that how you want your labor to begin? I don't think so. The last 3 weeks are important for brain and lung development, so be patient and let that baby bake.

That doesn't mean smurf. He's still growing and developing, let him be.

Medically: caster oil causes diarrhea, which causes you to become dehydrated, which in turn causes contractions.
certainly Not the best way to induce labor, not to forget, when you get to the hospital and they realize your dehydrated(which is causing the contractions) they are going to rehydrate you, and that will stop your contractions (most of the time)
If you even get them from the castor oil.
most people who are not ready to deliver(as in the baby is not ready yet not you, because Im certainly "ready"! and Ive got 11 weeks to go yet!) will just end up on the toilet most of the day.
Either way its not worth the horrible day you would have. Wait the extra 3 weeks. It WILL be worth it.

I wouldn't cause you'll probably just end up on the toilet with no labor. However sex can help! There is a chemical in semen that will help you to dilate. Try walking, prenatal yoga or rolling around on an exercise ball none of this helped me. But I know women that swear by it.... On a side note my sister did the splits at 38 weeks and her water broke 6 hours later. It's probably a coincidence but she always claims the splits get babies out.

They can be totally off on weights. And you can go walk around 1cm dilated for weeks. With my first I was 1cm from the time I was 30 weeks until 35 weeks when I went to 3cm and then delivered at 41 weeks. So you can go for a long time dilated

Quoting Brittany D3390:" how many of you took castor oil? Did it work!!?"
Would never! I hear it's gross... and if you like having the runs, then go for it!!... But beware you
could end up in labor and crap all over the table... plus why not wait...until your doctor says it's ok to induce or you go in labor on your own...
