I really don't think he understands that no one made money off the picture. It's not uncommon for Vietnam Vets to have severe mental disorders because we didn't take care of them when they came home. They have been lost in the system.

You have no idea what led up to this; none. Just like drug addicts, you can only do so much. They can't physically get this guy off the streets and MAKE him get help. No program can either.

And that's sad. They should be able to check him into an institution. They should have been able to save my uncle, but they won't. They won't even recognize that these men have mental problems most of the time.

It's just to bad he can't just simply appreciate the shoes and let that be that.

He's been on the streets since the 1980's. He certainly does not have the mental capacity or fortitude to understand what the act meant.

There are so many people (non-vets) that are crying out for mental health services in this country and it's not being addressed either.

The US should be ashamed of they lack of services they offer for the mentally ill.

I honestly think that some of the money we pump into the welfare program that goes to provide money and food for people capable of getting off their asses and working should be going to help those that truly cannot help themselves. We don't have enough money because others take it.
